This is my latest recarve on a 1943-p war nickel..I had no ideal what i was going to carve on this nickel when I started, But as I started removing metal, a subject started to develop and this is it...
Bill nice as usual , what tools do you use to carve , I paint a little on the side and always wanted to carve a couple of nickles for the family . rzage
Bill, I believe one day, whether you do it yourself or not, a book is in order. With your amount of work and skill, I can see this something to gather, catolog and publish.
I simply cannot believe that anybody could ever take a coin and create such a master piece. You definately have two things: 1. A very very good talent and 2. Way too much time on your hands :mouth:
My parents were in town for the weekend and I had a chance to sit down with my dad and show him my collection. My dad supplied me with many of my first coins.... Including the 1893 Columbian Comm Half. Then I showed him a pic of Bill's Columbian Half that I just purchased from him and my Dad didn't believe that they were the same coin. Then I showed him the reverse and he was shocked that anyone could do that. I love it.
Bill, I'd like to see you take a coin and carve something that depicts something or someone from the era of the coin. For instance, the 1943 nickel might look good with a carving of FDR. You might depict Eisenhower on a 1957 quarter. Or maybe a Victorian-type person on an 1878 Morgan. Just an idea. I don't know if it's feasible, but it might be a challenge. You know I enjoy your work!!! Oh, and something else: Do you have any pics of coins you started to carve, but then didn't finish? Or coins you felt weren't worthy of your talent? Or possibly any coins you made a mistake with and couldn't correct (if that's possible). I think we'd love to see some of these if you have them.
