This dime looks to be perfectly egg shaped, the complete edge band is in perfect structural condition. I don't think this was damaged after it left the mint and I can't find any information about it. I did notice how every that there are minted egg shape design coins but not sure if this is a business strike dime or a minted egg shape coin. Any help would be great. And that is the best I can do right now on the photos. Does it look like something I should send in to PCGS to be authenticated.
No I also say damaged after it left the mint. There is no way that could occur. - Mr. Ed (Specializing in collecting Mint Errors since 1985)
Might have been a test run on something similar to an elongated rolling machine for a token of some sort.
This can easily be made by the novelty penny press machines that make pennies into an oval/egg shaped coin. Just too much pressure and made the faces flat. Or a rail road as mentioned above. If it's not totally flat then it's from a penny press machine. A railroad would keep it flat I would think where as many penny press machines use 2 roller dies to flatten coinage which may give it an arc in shape. We had a thread about those machines last year ??
