Low tech trolling of CRHers. It's kind of funny.

1 bank had $9.50 in loose halves last night...nothing.

I will mention the teller who sold them to me was from Moldova, and WOW, she was as cute as her accent. This made finding nothing in the loose coins less painful :p

I'd trade days you with berto. I searched 11 teller wrapped rolls yesterday, got the world's dirtiest 2000 S that might be silver that I'm tempted to scrub with baking soda. The teller was grumpy and looked like Rosie O'Donnell.

That coin may be beyond help, but don't scrub it with baking soda, at least not first thing. Soak it in water. If that doesn't help, soak it in acetone, if you've got any. If that doesn't help, put it on a piece of aluminum foil in water that has baking soda dissolved in it. Each of these treatments might help it. Scrubbing it with baking soda will put hairlines on it.

Even in that shape you can closely examine the edge to see if it is clad or silver. Most likely it is an impaired clad proof. But I doubt it is silver.
If you don't mind damaging the coin, an easy way to tell is to just take
plain white toothpaste between your fingers (not gel) and just rub the coin
on both sides. A lot of dirt will come off. Rinse and dry. If it is silver it will shine up. If it's a clad proof it will get a little cleaner but it won't shine up like silver.

Do this, but on the edge of the coin, not the obverse or reverse.

I’ve been out of the hunting game for a while but I’m trying to get back in. I’m in Iowa City now for grad school. Just got a $500 machine bag of halves. What are everyone’s feelings about bags? It’s my first after years of roll hunting.

Bags are typically good for me. Especially, if the customer deposits the coins into the coin machine by him/her self directly and bypasses any potential silver sniping tellers. My first bag was only a partial bag ($164), but it yielded 51 silvers! Subsequent bags have not even approached that percentage of silver (15.5%), but I almost always find silver in a half dollar bag. One drawback however, is if a CRHer dumped into it. I try and find out if the bag was filled up gradually vs. all at once. Good luck and let us know how it shakes out.

Well that was fun! First handful I pulled out had a 1934 Walker in it. I think that’s the first Walker I’ve ever found while searching. It was the only silver in the bag but well worth it because it filled a hole in my book. Nice way to get me hooked on hunting again.

Thanks guys! The edge does look good for silver, just not 100% sure. I'm buying acetone tomorrow before picking up 2 mystery bags of halves from a new bank. Tried to order 4 boxes with them and they called and asked if two 1k bags would be okay. Got excited and said sure without thinking to ask where the bags got filled. :)

Yes, dry here too Ace. Finally today one of the 2 boxes I picked up has 2 enders. Goes to show you have to be patient.

After 9 straight skunk boxes ( a personal record :wacky:) , this shiny rim showed up early in my next box after I declared to myself “There’s no more silver in the world!” Hopefully, there will be more. :D

0 for 92 with one more box to go, I just can't help it. 433 1974's in one box. WTF. Most ever. I wonder if it's someone's 1974 DDO hunt dump lol. I put all in the ziplock bags for later use to look for DDOs under scope. I have like 6,000 now. Procrastinating on that for 1.75 years. Seriously, someone may be right about new facility to weed out silver! Same issue with Quarters, 1 for 21 boxes. I haven't tried dimes yet. I have done CWR nickels here and there and found almost dateless 1927 Buffalo. That's about it. I have a few wheaties but I'm not interested in that since I'm trying to BEAT HALF DOLLAR SLUMP. When I move out of CA, I will hit every bank all the way to East Coast. I hope the moving truck would carry all that load LOL. 4 boxes of half dollar is 100 pounds, brah. Maybe I will do a mixture of box and CWRs.

@BadLuckSilver if I was "on the move" then I would pickup only CWRs, but you do you. I cannot imagine stopping in my moving truck at even a couple banks in each town I pass through on a >1,000 mile drive...Will take a lot of time for likely low returns...BUT, I would enjoy the hunt :)
