@GoldFinger1969 It was great hanging out with you at the bar. Don't think we watched any of the game. Learned a lot from you on the investment and tax stuff.
Hope to see you next year. Have the feeling you are hooked on this show for years to come. It seems to get better each year.

Guys....I'll be posting pics of EVERYTHING I bought while at FUN -- except the Caramel Milky Way which got smushed a bit :D -- in coming days. Stay tuned !!

Was gonna go smallest purchase to biggest, but seems like you guys will be bugging me to post the 1923-D Saint so I may post that one first. :D

Let me catch up on everything that backed up and then I'll take some good pics (I hope). Latest problem is my dad's TV won't turn on -- gotta drive 3 1/2 hours roundtrip to fix what might just be a loose HDMI cable or SOURCE that got accidentally changed. Uggg.......:eek:

Same here, LD...I was glancing up at the score. That Ravens game was NOTHING compared to the Chiefs-Texans game !

Hope your flight back was great. Looking forward to hanging in the same hotel as you guys next year.

TypeCoin971793 Just a random guy on the internet

I got back from FUN last night. It was the first time I could spend multiple days at a coin show, was my first time sitting behind the table, and my first time exhibiting.

I spent Wednesday setting up my exhibit and looking around at some dealers’ tables. I stopped by many friends’ tables, including @C-B-D (great guy!). I made a couple good friends who are experts in Ancient Chinese coins. I also bought some 8 Reales for a dealer friend. Then I had to leave early because the friend I was with had office hours she needed to attend.

On Thursday, I finished my exhibit and walked the floor some more and bought some stuff from Jim Anderson, who is one of the experts in Chinese coins I befriended. Some of the coins were quite scarce and were priced right. I attended a talk given by Abby Zechman about keeping your kids in the hobby once you have gotten them hooked on coins. She had many great ideas. Then I gave my talk on Chinese counterfeits of US coins, during which 80 people showed up (!!!). The content delivered was good (several gave me good words after), but my delivery was quite sub-par due to nervousness (my friend fell asleep in the middle :D). I browsed the floor a little more and then left to meet up with the guys who attended this gathering. Then I did a little more browsing on the floor to show my friend some of the major rarities in US coinage and we held roughly $3 million in coins. She enjoyed the history lessons, particularly at the Stack’s table (they were not busy, so one of their experts was more than happy to pull out the coins and share his input on them).

Friday was spent behind the table, where I was helping out Greg Hannigan with Hannigan’s Rare Coins. Business was somewhat slow, but it got busy at times. Lunch food was extortionately priced. After closing, I went to a party hosted by the Hannigans and had great food, made great friends, and had an overall great time.

Saturday was much the same as Friday, though I sold a Chinese knife coin and bought a hoard of 75 Chinese coins. I also met a couple YNs and their mother and helped them discover what to do at the show and gave a quick grading lesson. They were great fun, and I was glad I could add to their show experience.

Sunday, I packed up my exhibit and made the rounds saying goodbye to all of my old friends and the new ones I had made. The show was dead at this point, so I left after a couple hours.

It was great to meet you, @TypeCoin971793 ! I could tell you were nervous during your presentation, but you did a good job. And the information was fantastic - I've already used it a couple of times in Jack Young's threads!

You did great, TypeCoin....the great thing about having a PowerPoint up on the board is that people can read what you are saying and emphasizing without worrying about where you are in the presentation. Fluid deliveries aren't as critical as when you are the sole source of information.

I headed the speakers bureau in college and the 1st time I had to announce/present our speaker, my stupid left leg wouldn't stop shaking. My friends said I was smooth and perfect, but I couldn't stop the stupid leg from shaking.:D

I've given some presentations to my astronomy club and the public, and even though I am no longer nervous I still stumble 2 or 3 times in a 50-minute talk. The key is to relax, realize that these are average joes just like you, and that YOU are the expert and they are benefitting from your expertise.

Again, you did a great job. Learned alot from your words and the slides. Thanks for the effort and presentation ! :cigar:

OK, Here It Is: My 1923-D Saint MS66. After being shut out on Day 1, I found the higher-end Saint dealers on Friday Day 2.

On the obverse, the fields are nice....I see a hit in the left-field...but overall luster is very nice (best I've EVER seen on a Saint)...hopefully it comes through in the pics....on the reverse, there appears to be a copper spot which is only visible if the light is angled a certain way. It's between the "M" in America and the "A" in dollars...it's really weird, you look at it straight-on and you can't see it, angle it and it's there (sort of like those old 3-D pics that changed as you angled it different ways).

The woman who I bought it from said it looked like an MS67 (how come they never say it looks 1 grade LOWER ? :D) but I don't think so. More border-line with a 66+ I saw, though I though it had this one beat by a hair.

Anyway, I've wanted a 1923-D for a few years so I'm not gonna fret about this nick or that blemish. Just gonna enjoy the coin and work on my next one for 2021 FUN.

Hoping the pics are good enough. If not, let me know and I'll try and get better ones with my Galaxy S9.

I may look for a thread here about taking good coin pics with a smartphone. The lighting and angle are tough to get right...and I have no idea what all the advanced settings do so I don't touch them (ISO, shutter, etc.).

Thanks Messy.....JohnMilton and Physics both took a look (admittedly in the OCCC with lousy lighting) and said the coin looked nice and the luster was excellent.

I'm happy. Not gonna beat it to death like past purchases and just enjoy the damn thing.:D
