What would you bid on this lot? (if you were going to bid)

It's somewhat a blind variety pack. I can't see bidding more than the melt value of the silver, but yet.... They have a 17.5% buyer premium + the shipping. Anyway, Hunt is typically sports related, but seem to get people shedding their coins at times as well.

Description: Lot of (2,034) circulated coins with $172.34 face value (see description). Includes (52) Kennedy half dollars (mostly 1967), (20) Franklin half dollars, (53) Walking Liberty half dollars, (377) pre-1965 Roosevelt dimes, (490) Mercury dimes, (170) pre-1965 Jefferson nickels, (130) 1942-1945 Jefferson War nickels, (250) Zinc War pennies, (474) Wheat pennies, and (18) "V" nickels. All are in rolls, so conditions are unknown, but coins are in circulated condition.

I'd bid close to melt, and allow a tiny additional amount for the non-silver, just because I do like searching. I'd also subtract that BP and shipping from my bid amount. This is all assuming there's some guarantee that everything's as described.

On eBay, with no BP, free shipping, no tax, and Buyer Protection, I'd go:

52 x 1.00 = $52 for Kennedy halves (they don't say the non-1967 ones are silver at all, so this is taking a chance)

    20 x 6.00 = $120 for Franklins

    53 x 6.00 = $318 for Walkers

    377 x 1.20 = $452 for Roosies

    490 x 1.20 = $588 for Mercs

    130 x 0.50 = $65 for warnicks

Maybe $30 for the rest, $1625 total. And I'd get outbid if it were an auction. But if it were a BIN at that price, I'd probably take a chance (assuming I saw it in time). If it was listed BIN at a high enough price to stick around, I'd offer $1500, and consider negotiating up a bit. (I've had a bit of luck lately getting silver below melt with Best Offer, and missed a couple of even better opportunities when sellers accepted offers I'd consider insulting.)

I'd do the math for spot price silver and set my maximum bid. It's fun to search but really, what do you expect to find?

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Next bid is up to $1650. That's more than I'd be willing to spend.

I'd be out at that price, too. You might find something to make it worthwhile, but at that point you're gambling.

In my opinion the reality of finding something good is the same as going to your LCS, a coin show and sale or buying from any other outlet. Just because it's an auction doesn't increase your chances of finding that one good coin.

Maybe this isn't the place to say it, but as opposed to having any sort of favorite coins, I look for undervalued pricing and bargains. I had my cap at $1500 on this lot. I would tend to think that these are better than ebay 'I searched rolls', but truly have nothing to base that on. I have bids on about 25 different lots in this auction and am winning 1, and it's non-coin. Oh well.
