Today I want to share an interesting US Clad Quarter I found on a recent Metal Detecting trip. At first I thought it was a twisted flat bottle cap until I flipped it around and saw the Eagle on the Reverse side. The Clad on the Obverse is actually separating from the Copper Core and on the 9:00 position of the Obverse it somehow lifted up and folded over itself. I don't know how this damage occured but it is so strange I wanted to show it. Yes.. I keep my fingernails clean! @JCro57 this one you might like as PMD issue.
Kinda looks like something I would confuse for an error when I first joined the community. Funny to look at how much I have learned since then.
I take my mutilated coins and bring them in for redemption every year. (After rinsing them a little with soap and water.)
But that soap and water might alter the surface! It could ruin the luster and flow lines left by the, um, mower blade...
All spenders @paddyman98. Sorry but you won't be able to retire off of them, no matter what those hacks on youtube say
Peel it all off.....taste it....chocolate? I would love to spend that sucker! Just to see the clerks reaction. Around here given what they give me BACK as change, they would totally take it.
I wonder how easy or hard it would be to intentionally remove the clad? Im not talking chemically but physically and keeping it intact.
Did you find it on the beach?? Salt water may have caused it!!? That dude been in the ground for awhile!! @paddyman98 my wife and daughter is leaving @ 4 am in the morning to NY. I gave them both strict instructions to find some FOGs. I told them both they may run into a guy that may try and beat you to them!! Lol. My wife is a 100% Germophobia!!! I no she will not produce any coins!! My daughter won’t let me down!! Will send you some pics of there fines bud!!
Here is another similar detecting find. It's an old thread from Dec 2013 https://www.cointalk.com/threads/1957-argentina-peso-metal-detector-find.239726/
Definitely. It's amazing the posts we get with total damage. I think there's one right now with major road rash and the OP thinks it has letters and numbers all over it.
Ya I seen that.. i mean i have posted one that was a bunch of damage but i never thought it was an error... i was just making sure lol cuz I've thrown out errors thinking they were damage before
