This actually happened to me today and had to share it with you all.

At the shop today in walks a mother with her nine year old daughter. Seems the girl is getting into collecting Silver Eagles.

Cool. I love to see YNs and not enough girls. Mom is polite, the kid has a pretty good idea what she wants and well mannered as well.

I get a 2008 ASE out for her and she wants it and has the money. Then mom says "well you have enough for another one".

I ask what dates she has and mom tells me "we bought one last year so probably a 2007".
    I suggest a 2006 at this point.

Mom asks if we have any 1999 because that was the year her daughter was born. No problem and a good choice so I get a tube of 1999.

NOW I have to open the tube to get the coin. Those tubes really seal at times so I jokingly say "If I break a nail getting this open I'm outta here".

Kid looks at me and says "Don't break a nail I want that coin".

Darn near wet myself. Now THERE'S a collector I can appreciate. :):):):)

Great story! My eldest daughter turns nine next week, she was born in 1999. She's always asking to look at the varied coins in my office and is constantly (with her sister) bringing me change they find laying around the house.

Most kids I know would simply keep all that money and spend it when they have the chance. But, my girls always want to know if there's anything special about their find.

They'll probably both end up being roll searchers like their dad. ;)

Great story. Last week I was at a coin shop and a mother with her son( 9or 10) was starting a quarter collection. She is going to have him pick out one quarter a week or so. The guy behind the counter was very helpful, I think. The bad thing is an old man in the store with us started complaining about a other coin store and the language was out of this world. The lady and boy had to hurry up and get out of there, me I was in the back room getting my supplies and waited for the old man to leave.

Great story. Silver eagles are excellent coins for kids because they are affordable, look great and most kids seem interested in owning pure silver coins. It's like a treasure coin.

    Great story Clembo.
Not only a newmismatist, but practical and knowledgeable, and not about to let someone beat her out of something she wants.
There sure aren't many nine year olds like that these days.
    Thanks for sharing.

I had to share this one with you all.

First both mother and her daughter had good manners. Don't see enough of that in kids these days. You know please, thank you etc.

Then the sharp wit. How could I, of all people, not like that?

I didn't break a nail and the boss did give her a bonus.
She really liked the beanie babies (yes we STILL have some) so he gave her one of her choice.
