When is a Yes song better than a Yes song? When it's Jon Anderson + Todmobile + the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and choir covering a classic. Awaken was always a glorious showstopping epic piece of prog rock indulgence. With Todmobile and Symphony, it is utterly transcendent. I've never experienced more episodes of aesthetic chills in one song, although to be fair not many "songs" are seventeen minutes long . If you've not seen this, please devote seventeen minutes of your life to this video and you will be elevated . There are so many climaxes in this piece that smoking a cigarette after listening would not be unreasonable . In particular, check out just after 14:00 (14:12 - 14:55). That climax just keeps going and going and going... when the choir joins in I can hardly stand it-- something akin to religious ecstasy. I've got my hands in the air, sweeping the heavens with every note. My favorite coin varies even more often than my favorite tune.... «Echoes» by Pink Floyd is special though. So is this one:
I like this one, because I love The Who, and I love favorite coins that are more special than expensive (I sure appreciate some of the expensive ones here too though). I have the same coin type representing Elagabalus in my emperor collection. It’s a special portrait, and perhaps the one closest to portaying a disturbed young man.
This thread has been out of the limelight for a while... In my enforced "working from home", I've been listening to a lot more Fatima Mansions - "You Won't Get Me Home" has some suitable lyrics for the times we're in. Recent arrivals are always favourites - here's one - another Cr. 408/1b C. Piso L.f. Frugi denarius. A very large issue and often struck in high relief, so quite attractive. Obv. I don't think The Stone Roses have got a mention yet - their self-titled debut album in 1989 regularly feature in "Best of all time" albums. It was five years before their second, and last, studio album appeared - "Second Coming" - they broke up in 1996. In 2011, they returned and lasted until 2017. I saw them twice in their second incarnation - here in Phoenix Park in 2012 - a glorious July evening sandwiched between days of rain. According to the timestamp on my 'phone, it was 10.22PM when I took this - we have nice long evenings in summer! Ian Brown may not have been the Messiah (though probably a very naughty boy), but here's "I Am The Resurrection" in all its glory, including 4+ minute outro. It was the last song on the night. Here's a pretty recent arrival - a denarius of C. Valerius Flaccus with a tough-looking Victory. Obv. X - Draped and winged bust of Victory right Rev. C.VAL.FLA / IMPERAT / EX. This thread is somewhat moribund, maybe it needs some Hazel O'Connor. From Breaking Glass, "Will You", with wonderful sax solo. "Eighth Day" - very Tronesque, though Breaking Glass pre-dates Tron. And a coin - I'd wanted one of these for a while and finally got one - not in great condition, but fairly scarce. Denarius of L. Valerius Acisculus Obv. ACISCVLVS - Head of Apollo right, hair tied with band; above, star; within laurel wreath Rev.
