    Looking more like Die Deterioration doubling. Nickels dies from the early 80's were really ridden hard

    Lol thanks. Again me and double dies don't get along. I only discovered one ddo nickel 1944 I believe.

    Besides the usual descriptive, "flat and shelf-like", for machine doubling it also helps to note how the letters are narrower because the back-and-forth motion of the die has cut into the normal width of the letters. I hope that makes sense. ~ Chris

    LOL, I had to see this post as with my dyslexia, I read the heading as "1983 pickle." Took me a third read to see what it really was.

    If it was a doubled die the serifs of the letters would be split. Looks like MD to me.

    @Shrews1994 knows all about Wexlers...and she has become a very savvy forum member. We all get better learning from Coin Talk...and...doubleddie.com is not just a good site, it is one of the best sites...jmho...my 2 cents for 2 points.

    A couple of your pictures made me think, "Oh yeah, I can see it." But the rest of the pictures confirm that it is in fact machine doubling.
