I got my 1909-S VDB PCGS AU55 in today and was less than impressed. The L in LIBERTY is essentially missing and there are black specks on the obverse. Overall, not very eye appealing to me. That is what I get for purchasing from a seller with poor pictures and that would not message me back.

Went ahead and initiated a return through eBay and picked this up to replace it. Screenshot_20200107-081627_eBay.jpg Screenshot_20200107-081633_eBay.jpg

I think I posted all the S-mint cents from the 1910’s decade except the 1916-S. I felt the two I had did not measure up to the others. So I bought this off eBay and I am very pleased with the incredible detail.

I have a couple rolls of 1955 uncirculated wheats, but I have never had any of them tone on me like yours. It is beautiful.

Yep, I’m amazed that they took my Make Offer of only $81. That is just unfathomable. They should have had it graded and sold it for much more. I happen to like it raw so it worked out great for me.

It is a good match for this Philadelphia mint example.

Hmmm. I don't want to pop any bubbles, but an ungraded 1916 wheat is only worth about $15 in MS60 condition. Even a '16-s graded in MS60 condition is only worth about $80.

That’s OK, I only paid $10 for the 1916. But do we think these are only MS60?

I tend to think they would grade out at least MS64, and they look better than the MS65’s shown on the Heritage web site. Perhaps the economics are against grading the ‘16, so we’d have to grade it ourselves. But before there were TPG’s, there were still grades, and I would say these are both Choice or Gem, rather than an entry-level uncirculated grade.

If I ever sell off the collection these will get graded, but probably not before then. Those big slabs just take up too much space and don’t fit in my display trays.

In looking at the photos I would guess the 1916 to be in the 63/4 area. The 1916-S looks at least MS65..........well worth more than $81, closer to 10x that amount..
    I love the 1916-S.........gorgeous coin.
