Hey guys I know it's not rare but what a lovely piece. Had to share it with those that would appreciate it. I'm big time U.S. but once in a while I see a wold coin I just HAVE TO GET. Actually bought some other stuff at work today so the boss tossed it in for free. Even better. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0002-4.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0001-7.jpg Hope you like it as much as I do. clembo
I like it! I believe the bust represents Cuauhtemoc, son of Moctezuma, who mounted a powerful defense of the Aztec capital against the army of Cortez. Ultimately the war was lost and he died of smallpox, but is remembered for his bravery.
Got me smiling guys. I love my U.S. and always will. Of course I also love copper and a beautiful coin. Hmmm..... I'm still working on a lot of U.S. stuff but I am seeing a lot of world coins firsthand as well. Gotta budget and stay focused ya know. U.S. first but sometimes a coin just "talks" to you. This one did when I spotted it Saturday actually. Was too busy to think about it but a lull today let it "talk" to me again. It was in a page dominated by Un Peso coins. Like those too but this one jumped out. Happens on occasion and the price was right.
never understood the darkside thing...but nice coin...there are so many attractive...or just down right outstanding coins minted outside of the US...hard to imagine one could resist them.
That's a great coin, now you'll want the Mexico Olympiad coin next, then a Libertad or two. Wait till you get stuck on these babies, talk about the darkside, lol. "http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e65/simrete/cwt.jpg"
It's on the front. Cincuenta (50) Centavos. 1959 was the last year they made that particular design though.
Clembo, thought maybe you'd appreciate this one as well... I think this the Mexico Olymiad Becky62 mentioned. http://www3.nf.sympatico.ca/donna.penney/coins/1968_25Pesos.jpg
