Went through a bunch of junk silver at work today and found this.
Some of you will think it is beyond ugly. My coworker and I agreed this coin has character. In hand there is plenty of luster. VERY heavy toning.

What do you all think about this "nasty" coin?

It looks okay but I would be concerned that this type of toning is damaging the coin.

All toning will if left unprotected , put it in a intercept shield 2X2 & a dry place and the toning should stop .:smile:hatch::hammer:

I have been wanting one of these for quite a while. The "D" and "S" are just
too expensive. Your coin is cool and has lots of history and character. Good
one to save for the collection!

Honestly I'm surprised at the responses so far. Seems a few others appreciate such a coin.

Yes, I DID find it in junk silver. Then I dropped $10 for it. Boss made a profit and I rescued a coin as far as I'm concerned. Would have ended up in the "melt" bucket.

It will go into a 2x2 and that's it. Let it continue. I figure it's been around for 76 years and I won't live forever. Let things happen as they will.

This coin really struck me and I am glad I had the opportunity to share it with you. Blast white is great for so many but this baby is 100% original!

IMO that is a real score for junk silver. It would be a real shame for that one to be melted.

My gosh. Times are a changing. A few months ago, everything was MS-69 and glowing. Now, it's ok for coins to have "character".

This stuff is starting to look like what I and many others collect.

It'll probably be awhile before I post again - I'll be busy extracting my tongue from my cheek.

Kind'a makes you feel like a kid again, doesn't it? This is the type of collecting that I love.

honestly, I think its one of the better toned coins Ive seen. With the exception of that commem coin( if any one knows which one im talking about.. please please PM me a pic of it) the one with the wagon.. that one is beautiful. But this one is nice, and a great pick up for melt!
