I noticed some references to the String & Son rolls. I've purchased some cents from various banks back east when I get there, but was wondering which is best....bank wrapped from String or customer wrapped stuff. The only thing I can think bad about the customer wrapped is it may be coins that someone here just went through. But on the other hand, I found 4 solid rolls of customer wrapped coins at a bank in Long Island......I guess it's all a matter of luck anyway. Anyone notice better luck one way or the other?

Thought I found a silver dime at work, but as I picked it out of the roll turned out to be a canadian dime.

toyz4geo, I have noticed that there are less wheats and silver war nickels in customer wrapped rolls. However, there seem to be more better condition older nickels and cents. Also, I have found more silver dimes in customer wrapped rolls than in bank wrapped. In Michigan

I general prefer customer wraped coins because I find more pre 1960 coins then I did in bank shotgun rolls (string & son). I said I DID until a few weeks ago when I started finding more and more pre 1960 coin in String & Son rolls.

I live in a small town and it does not take long to run the banks out of Customer rolls that I have not gone through, so I started asking for shotgun roll a few weeks back and out of $100.00 of cent rolls I found 139 pre 1960. Some of the notables are 1911, 1911D, 1912D, 1919, 1931S, 1923S, 1927, 1927S, 1932D, 1933D, and a 1928 Small S. Before this run I only found maybe 20 to 30 pre 1960 in a $100.00 of cent rolls.

This increase maybe due to the economy and gas prices, everyone is digging into their saved change. What ever the case it is making roll searching very intresting again.:smile:smile:smile

Andy, nice find with the 31S, even in a lower grade it is a great find. I have found more and more coustomer rolled coins at the banks in the past few weeks. i still search the string & son rolls but have found a lot of nice coins in the coustomer rolls.

I got 4 rolls of cents from the bank today and ended up with four wheats. A52' S and a 46' from the rolls and a 1943 and a 44' from the teller. Whenever she comes across wheat cents she saves them for me. Very cool. :thumb:

Went through about one month's worth of spare change and the best I could come up with was one 1960-D small date Lincoln and three 50's Jeffersons. About three months ago I found a 1972-S Jefferson.

Back in the 50's when I was a newspaper delivery boy, it was an everyday thing to find Indian Head Cents, Standing Liberty Quarters, Walking Liberty Halves and the occasional Barber in change. If only I knew then what I know now...
