Heres a topic I've never seen.

I'm sure you all have 2x2's that have "character". You know, they have writing all over and sometimes, they're almost more interesting than the coin in the holder!

I'll give a couple examples that I have. Anyone else have interesting ones?

Here's one that I wonder about when I look at it. It's an 1887 Morgan but it looks as if "Vince" sold the Christmas gift Pop Pop gave him. Like Pocket Change said ,the 2x2 is a little more interesting than the coin. I wonder what happened for Vince to sell a gift from his grandfather(I'm assuming)...John

Vince probably went out, bought a case of beer, pack of cigs and put some gas in his car with the money.

I use them quite often and make notes on the border. Very convenient and inexpensive. :)

    Gotta love 2x2s.

The boss bought a large world collection last week. Much of it in 1-1/2x1-1/2.
The guy had VOLUMES written on them. Price paid, book value, year, country, type, denomination.
Both sides covered with writing. Now considering I'll end up reholdering a lot of these I love it as I'll be looking up the KM numbers.

I'm not that bad but maybe it's a good idea...

For my world coins in the top left I put:
    1st line: country
    2nd line: denomination
    3rd line: date
4th line, if needed: event or person commemorated etc

in the bottom right I put KM number and note if it's made of a precious metal.

More info would be interesting but just think of the time! it takes forever as it is...

Better hurry up & bid on that rarest of rare coins , after reading why it's so rare that coin could go as high as the shipping charge .

It says right on the 2x2 that it has a low mintage of only 85.5 million!!!!

There's even more to it than that Brit!

Here's my original question and response to it.

"Q: Q: How exactly is this coin rare other than the writing on the holder? A: Well, it got YOUR attention, which i suspect is rare. Also, it is a key date in that it is the last year pennies were made with 95% copper, prior to the steel pennies being issued in 1943 due to war munitions. Also, it was minted in San Francisco and had a lower mintage amount than most wheaties. Also, it's MINE, for now. And i am RARE, lol. I hope you're more interested in the coin and my answer rather than being a smartie pants and busting cookies. I look forward to your response! God bless. Donna B."

Of course a smartie pants should always respond.

"Thanks for your quick albeit ridiculous response.
It was brought to mine, and many others, attentiion on a web site.
Smartie Pants? Perhaps and it's a rare quality I pride myself on.
Just so happens I work in a REAL coin shop where REAL collectors come in.
1942-S is as common as mud I'm afraid.
Reckon I see dozens in any given week.
NOW, what will you do if you DO get a truly rare coin. Bigger holder for more writing?
    Perhaps a papyrus scroll?
Yep, I'm a smartie pants. Beats being a dummy pants don't you think?"

Ebay can be such a fun place!
