The Birth of the Soviet Union. 1921.

Full set of the first Soviet coins issued. 1 Ruble, 50, 20, 15 & 10 Kopeks. Silver. AU+ to UNC. All key dates based on mintage and historical significance.

Upon the fall of Tsarist Russia, the Bolsheviks established the first Soviet government of Russia. This coin set represents the first issues and year of the Soviets in 1921. While not very rare, 1921 were key dates to some of the coins in this series when they were issued for an estimated 3 years or so. High grade specimens of AU to Uncirculated are also very scarce.

Whilst founded by Lenin in Russia, the eventual victory of the allied forces and Joseph Stalin's strong arm leadership, the Soviet bloc expanded to include much of Eastern Europe and the Central Asian Republics making them one of the strongest superpowers for decades.

Soviet Russia would eventually survive the onslaught of the second world war and established the powerful communist Soviet Union to rival the Western Democratic Countries championed by the US and Western Europe heightening at the cold war during the 60s and 70s. It will take almost a century before the mighty Soviet Union finally collapsed in 1991.

Thanks. Design wise it is rather simple but introduced the iconic sickle and hammer symbol of the communist states up till today. But nonetheless the history is indeed very impactful.

You can check out the NGC site prices. Krause values are often not updated to reflect market prices.. Also be sure to check the key dates for type.

That is a nice set! I don't think I've completed the 1921 set. Missing 10 and 20 kopek

As you know, it did not exactly "fall", Nicolas (sp.) and his family were murdered. So out of empathy I collect Russian coins with his image. (about pre 1915). Nice post on these coins of the early communist rule!

So according to Wikipedia, the Soviet Union was created on December 30, 1922 and was dissolved on December 26, 1991. Four days less than 69 years...

Well yes they were murdered. But the Tsarist Russian government was at it's end. But nonetheless what attracted me was not so much of the end od the Tsarist regime but rather the birth of the Soviet Union and it's eventual fall

I did a digital one a while back. Probably need to redesign as the album size is A4 which is too big
