Here is another example of an Augustus comet denarius. This makes three real ones and one copy in my collection. Augustus Comet Denarius by JGGonzalez posted Dec 31, 2019 at 2:05 PM I got this one from Lucernae on Vcoins. I really like it because it's beaten up a little from circulation, but still has clear details and nice eye appeal.
I was tempted by this one when I got my comet coin. Nice selection. AUGUSTUS AR Denarius OBVERSE: CAESAR AVGVSTVS, head left wearing oak wreath REVERSE: DIVVS-IVLIVS to left and right of eight rayed comet with tail upwards Uncertain Spanish Mint, possibly Caesaraugusta 19-18 BC 3.45g, 21mm RIC 137b RSC 97
Yes, he is a great guy! I couldn't afford to pay for this coin in one lump sum, so he worked out a payment plan with me. I definitely intend to do business with him again!
I think I saw one on www.vcoins.com in the $400 to $500 range. Try searching on "augustus" and "comet". That's how I found mine.
Comet Coins.....I definitely want to get a coin with a comet on the reverse, as I am a member of an astronomy club and it would make for a nice conversation at our next meeting. Heck, I'd do a lecture on it if I could get enought ifnormation and get up-to-speed on enough of them. If anybody has any cheap leads (as I am buying this after FUN ) for me to pursue, let me know. Not sure if GC, Ebay, or HA is my best bet for something this specific. Will explore and check back here, too.
There are many provincial coins with comets on them. With little persistence you should be able to track one down for a reasonable price.
