Unusual find for sure but not rare. Sounds like someone sold off part of grandpa's collection or something. 1955S cents were hoarded en mass because they were supposed to be the last "S" minted cent. Finding them in good condition is not uncommon. All that being said, if they are as nice as you say they are, they are still worth a few bucks a piece.
You should post pictures. We like pictures :)

    what's a "Deb Marks" ??

FYI, welcome to CoinTalk. We do have a few grammar police here too so voice to text may need some of your attention before posting as sometimes we're clueless on what you are stating when it relates to itself grammatically ;)...

While 55-S is a lower mintage compared to other modern cents,
they were saved and many survive in MS condition. An entire roll is a good find.
They are prob worth as much as .75 each. With higher MS examples more.
You'll have to post some clear photos of both sides.

I worked in a coin shop for about 3 years several years ago and in the back room when going through purchased collections, we would sort out the junk into a coffee cup. I remember taking the time to assemble rolls of like sized coins and tokens to deposit at the local bank. I would get alot of plated coins, magicians coins, tokens and foreign coins. Just wishing for a collector to stumble across one of my rolls.

20191108_191240.jpg 1957-D included in an auction that I won that I had no idea was there. The roll was plastic and sealed at both ends, just lucky I guess.

They are now in 2x2's, the picture was taken when they were first removed from the roll.

Always hold the coin by the edges, to minimize any fingerprints or oils that
can transfer from your hands to the face of the coin (either side).
    They look like mint state.

I’m with Michael K. Hold coin on the rim and wear gloves. Pictures are bad but those could be high MS grade! Love them!!

Whenever you open a roll and work with coins, especially MS coins you should have some gloves on, I prefer white cotton because they are inexpensive; you can wash them or dispose.

Each coin should be removed carefully from the roll, never spilled out like that...you want to avoid them touching each other ever again...that’s where contact marks come from, for goodness sakes! In that roll...could have been that elusive MS68 Top Pop everyone would be envious to own...now...we may never know...

This is why you read and ask questions so you learn how to be a serious collector and quit making mistakes. Every collector on this forum has, or will learn this eventually...or not, and continue to harm coins when they really don’t have to...Spark

Nice find. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like the majority of those entombed plastic cent rolls, like the one Edward here unraveled, contain absolutely gorgeous cents. Maybe the rock solid confinement seals in their original beauty? It's a rarity to find a brown 55-S........even when plucked out of the wild. MS66 Red 55-S's are around every corner. But good luck on finding a brown one in that condition.
