John, Considering the huge collection of gem coins you have amassed you really need to get some photo equipment & start taking some quality photos . Now is the time to get started. Take a few weeks off & devote that time to a serious photo project beginning with your ancient & medieval coins. Your appreciation for these coins will grow & your knowledge about them will grow too as your photo collection builds .
Quant.Geek, You've got an incredible run of exquisite Byzantine coins ! Are your Sear 1761 & 1783 double strikes or struck over earlier coins ?
@lordmarcovan did a wonderful job of this earlier in the year, starting with Augustus and ending with early Byzantine rulers. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/lets-march-through-time-with-roman-imperials.327939/#post-3250904 Admittedly, by the end with the really obscure and historically near meaningless rulers we did have to borrow from wild winds a bit.
John, Your solidus of Anastasius I appears to be a rare Ostrogothic issue of Theoderic in the name of Anastasius I, AD 493-526 . Am I right about that ?
Sear 1761 is overstruck, as typical, with an undertype that is Sear 1760. Sear 1783 is also overstruck, as typical, with an undertype that is Sear 1761.
I am not sure now.... That coin was one of my first ever ancient coins. I won it from one of the NFA auctions. They described it as: AV Solidus Constantinople Mint Anastasius I Byzantine Empire I DO have an Ostrogothic AV Solidus of Theodorich in name of Anastasius I Rome Mint It has an RA in obverse field
Sorry Al: wrong photo thats Theodorich! I will look for my real Anastasius I from NFA auction/ found it....finally/ looks way better in hand.
