You ever buy a coin and then forget about it?

Apparently, I bought this coin a year and a half ago. I had no idea I owned it until I was cleaning out a cabinet and found it. I had to search through my Ebay history to find when I bought it and for how much! I had completely forgotten about this coin, didn't take any pictures of it, didn't log it in my spreadsheet. Nothing.

It is graded 66* RD, with noticeably semi-prooflike fields. Not quite enough to make PL, especially on the reverse, but the obverse is quite reflective.

    Surprise!

    That ever happen to you?

I'm curious, Jason. Do you remember why you bought it? ~ Chris

I bought it for the semi-prooflike quality, which is extremely rare in Wheat Cents. I've now added it to my PL Registry set.

Yes it has happened to me but not in such a spectacular fashion! I collected kid coins all through the 70’s and whatever Littleton would send me while I was deployed overseas in the 80’s. I do occasionally pull an old box from the attic to find an average coin or two hidden in the old box. My best find however had been a collection of Beatles memorabilia I had put together in the 1970’s and forgotten about at my mothers house until we moved her two years ago. A few of those old items turned out to be surprisingly valuable these days.

Well, not exactly but close. I've seen coins posted here on the forum (more then once) and said to myself; hey, I've got one of those somewhere!! But where?? :banghead:

I'd spent the rest of the day (or however long it took) looking thru my dansco's, whitman's, three ring binders, 2x2 boxes, slab boxes, miscellaneous boxes until I found it. I know, it's a personal problem I have! :hilarious::happy:

    I haven't 're-found' the ones I've forgotten, yet. So I don't know if I've forgotten any, yet. I'm hoping I do!

Actually yes. When Littleton was selling ASE's for around $8.00, I was keeping them in an old tin candy box. That was before they stopped letting you buy these through their special ads. I had stored them above a heating duct and found them years later when I was doing some insulating of the ducts. There were 15 of them I had completely forgotten about.

None that I’ve ever run across. But then again, my collection is probably only about 300 coins. I’m not exactly what they’re talking about when they say “accumulator.”

I don’t forget that I bought them, but I routinely forget to submit at least 2 coins everytime I send a submission to NGC

How much does the coin cost ? Is it alot relative to most of your collection ?

Great find! My world coin collection is large enough that I on occasion buy a "new" coin to find that I already had it. I'm hoping my exact change database software changes that for me. Still working through it.

Have a raw 1909-S DVB hidden somewhere in the house. Bought about 10 yrs ago. Low end Fine.. Is worth about half what I paid, now... At least I have one. I suffer from elder moments as well
