I just came across an advertisement for a site called coinwants.com a site devoted entirely to coin auctions set up quite like an ebay without the yard sale mentality. It just started up on june 15th, has anyone else heard about it? I just checked it out, and it seems like it could be something wonderful, especially since they would have the time and oversight to spot shady self slabbers, counterfeit coins, and the like.
Juss looked at it. There's a 1909 SVDB MS65 with no bids, min offer $1800. with 21 hours left in the auction.
I registered there, but have been waiting over an hour for the email to verify. Maybe slow because of the holiday or something. Guy~
wow...did we all miss an opportunity? http://coins.stampwants.com/1909-S-VDB-Penny-NGC-MS64-BN_QQitemnameQQ4111952QQidQQauctiondetails I would have put that one on plastic in a second!
They are a new spinoff of StampWants.com. I'll take time for them to get noticed by a larger crowd. Based upon StampWants.com, I have mixed feelings, at least from the seller's perspective. They are easy to use and a lot cheaper than eBay. But from what I can see not many of their items actually get bids. Not sure why, but for the price it's worth some test marketing. Don't forget, we're in the summer selling doldrums.

Looks like a pretty good outfit ! I wish them well. However, I shy away from raw coins over the internet - which is most of the inventory.
I did a search there. The seller has three (3) 1909 SVDB cents for sale - two MS64 starting at $1800 each and one MS61 starting at $1350, all slabbed. At a relatively unknown site like this one is for now, one might be able to come up with a real bargain.
Maybe - maybe not. No matter how good the price - you still have to get the coin after you pay for it. Never forget that you need to know your seller.
I'm registered as well. They only offer $200 buyer protection ( I only looked quick, may have missed something ) For $1850+, your buying a number on plastic, for the same cash, you can get a much nicer SVDB with some red in it and more eye appeal.........
Lets keep this thread going. I want to hear a lot of good reports about this site and no bad ones before I join. has anyone actually completed a transaction over there yet?
They do have a forum section with no complaints that I could find. It seems that everyone posting there is satisfied with their experience, except for fees charged to the sellers, which aren't any worse than ebay's.
Like most of the other 1,234,567,890 "new" coin auction sites, they have no buyers. Sellers jumping on the chance to sell with no/minimum fees aren't necessarily buyers. I predict a 0.0000000810000007% chance that this site will replace EBay.
There are so many sites doing this now. No seller fees. No difference. None of these places are "auction" sites. The coin sells for whatever the bid is, if anyone bids. They have a place, they're glorified internet stores in an "auction" format. I'm not knocking this. Let's just not expect opening bids of 0.99 on Morgans anytime soon.
Is this new Coin Wants site run by Ernie from ebay? Seems that 99% of the listings are his. With his notariety on ebay, I would be surprised to see him try somewhere else, unless he owned the website.
