This weekend went very well. Saturday I pulled a dollar coin and a silver ring. Good signal, good patina and it's stamped .925. Well I am looking at it with a loupe and I can see it is plated over copper. So a little disappointing. But today went very well. I really like the 1946 Australian half penny. And my GF thinks the homemade earring is silver. So we'll get that tested.
The Sacagawea's run from 2000-2008, and the Native American dollars, from 2009-present. Your Native American Dollar is 2014. If it's a Philly, 5.6 million and Denver 3 million minted. Is the pendant silver? Still looking for the ring?
Yes I'm still looking for it. I'm pretty sure my son got ahold of it and put it in one of his little places. Ill find it when I'm cleaning im sure. I do not know it's not stamped. I have to go up and have it tested. The necklace wasn't with the pendant, I put that on there after. The loop in the pendant looks good but it kind of reminds me of stainless. My is knee is a lot better today,I think I'm going to get to go out for a little bit . I've been researching a pretty cool place so hopefully I can pull some nice stuff out of the ground.
Sometimes the stamp will be on the clamp, link, little hook part of an earring etc. And on non rings, I have found stamps sometimes in odd places. Usually with rings I can tell by the signal/sound I get and the patina. I have a few homemade jobs that aren't stamped, but are definitely silver. Of course a more expensive detector will tell you it is silver before you dig it up. Maybe my next one.
Got to go for an hour to that place. My knee started hurting and I didn't want to do any more damage so I stopped. But wow for an hour this place is definitely going into rotation. Plus the recent drops make me think it's a good place. Hit a little spill here,3 quarters a dime ,nickel and 3 pennies. I kept telling my wife another coin hey another coin lol.
I watched your news piece, very nice!! I'm on the East coast and I have researched and been looking up those battlefields. I wish I could find a metal detecting club around my area, I don't have nothing like that. Or maybe I do and I just haven't looked them up yet.
It's Sterling!!! The necklace charm, it's stamped on that little loop. AAZ-STER is the stamp, have you every seen that one? Have to go look this up... Thanks again Mike, you the man. Well I looked and it's Sterling, pretty cool. Found this on an old baseball field that was completely gone. You could see where all the bleachers and all that was. But I didn't get to do very much of it as I had my 3 yo son with me digging. He loves to help dig.
I have this really nice and heavy Libra pendant (after a really long silver drought too) and it is stamped 925 at the very top of the loop. Looks like I need to soak it to get the wood chip debris out. Yes you definitely want to search under where the bleachers stood.
That does look heavy! Yes I made sure to hit all the hot spots first. The charm was in the pathway between the baseball field and where I believe the concession stand would have been. I found a cool baseball medal there as well but never posted it,I'll get it out and share it too. I have said it once and I'll say it again,I just love this hobby so much!!
The Libra is almost 1/2 ounce. You can't really see it, but I circled the 925 stamp at the top of the loop.
Update dollar coins and halves. I'm not bragging. No one is more surprised, shocked and delighted than I am. As I never expected this.
Birds It's going to be too cold tomorrow, so I switched to Saturday. I get up and it's snowing. But I headed out anyway and there wasn't any snow or difficulty until my last spot. Lots of snow there. So I had to cancel my other 2 spots which were even higher up. I saw a huge peacock crossing the road. Brilliant blue/green plumage. I saw a flock of sandhill cranes in a field. And another flock of Canadian geese in flight. (And the usual ravens, etc.) Final hunt of the year.
Has anyone ever detected in Spain? I'm headed to Palma de Mallorca soon and was wondering if I might be able to use my detector there. From what I've read it's kind of an iffy situation. Not technically legal (but might be in some places??), but not really enforced as long as you stay in generic locations vs historical sites. If you've got experience there, please post your thoughts!
I knew it would be light. Weak spot in the rotation and it's been very cold. Lucky to get anything. Not worth anything, but the 1960-D nickel was in good condition.
So, the ring that we thought was real came back fake. And the silver heart that I thought was fake, came back real.
