Most companies warranties are voided if you tamper with their products. I do not see why TPG should be any different. Taking someones word they are going to do something, well I can say is good luck. When I was younger, I was reasonably comfortable in accepting someones word they would do what they say they would. Maye I am turning into a grumpy old man but I just do not feel that way now. ok i read the article for once i am with NGC the guy played the game and lost and is now being a sore loser. If he would have made money he would not have complained i see those kind of people at coin shows all the time. 3 cheers for NGC i might send them some of my own coins as a reward
I must be from another planet. IMO, NGC should have told him to accept the 63 grade or send it somewhere else. So is it a 64DPL, a 63PL or a 64PL? What kind of "professionals" are working at NGC when they give out higher grades just because someone lost out in the crackout game. Where is their integrity? Either it's a 63 or a 64 but it can't be both.
Vavet You have a predisposed bias against any tpg, that can be found by reading any of your posts about them. The guy cracked out the coin. Warranty/grade void. It's pretty simple. Now all this " send in the old slab/insert" stuff is not the way it's played, and I don't know why they did that to the fellow, but..... Once you crack out, it is a raw coin all over again.
I always thought that these companies had an "upgrade" service where you can send in the slabbed coin and they regrade it. If it grades higher, they reholder it...if it doesn't, they don't. Is that not the case? Seems that would be the safer method (if one chooses to play the TPG game).
if you send it to PCGS they reholder it no matter what. People beleive they wont reholder it but they do and there is a very good reason for that their older holders had flaws
I am not in the minority here, but I don't get it. In my English, "stand a really good chance to get it in a new holder with the grade of ms64 DPL" is not promising anything. So he gets upset that they did not deliver what they did not promise to deliver?? Tough!
I do care how great you are at breaking open a slab, there's always a chance that a coin can get damaged when you bust it out... they ARE supposed to be secure holders after all. The guy was gambling and lost, now he's sore. Plain and simple.
And this is bad, how? His point is absolutely valid and correct. Irregardless, the guy "got what he deserved". If someone were to disagree with a TPG about the grade assignment of a coin, then most certainly they should simply send it in for reconsideration rather than "self-cracking". In my opinion, the problem is that most people *know* that the TPG will not agree with the upgrade, so they try to use the fact that grading is subjective to try to get the right 1-2-3 combo of graders to get that extra grade push. Much like gambling. And, one reason the coin will always be reholdered when submitting for upgrade is because the grading process is supposed to ensure that the graders are not biased by the old holder and will give a more subjective opinion. Just imagine, however, how many coins one could buy over a ten year period instead of gambling it away like this. Most people who do this, I would be sure, do not run it like a business, so the profit/loss really would be hard to determine, just like gambling. You may get that one or two big money upgrades, but at what overall cost? Makes you wonder...

Yeah, reholder is $10.00 and that gets you the same grade in a new holder. If you want to try to "cross", you pay full price, and have the coin remain in the old holder if it does not cross over. You have to option of specifying a minimum grade as well. To regrade, you can submit in the holder, pay the full fee and hope for the best. Worst case scenario? Same coin in same holder/grade but your out the $$$.
