Never noticed these triangular "spikes" before. There are two of them (see close-up of obverse). The scans are the best I can do for now. Just wondering what these are. Throwing in the reverse, just in case you need to see that, too. Thanks!
Looks like a die clash to me. If it is a die clash there would be several examples in existance. Have you checked the list of VAMs for this?

I don't collect silver dollars and I don't do VAMs. I'm sure there are several VAM collectors who can point you in the right direction.

Top one is an 1886-0, the bottom is an 1891-0. Here is the pic from the VAM bible to show exactly what is happening...
Thanks. Don't know what they are, though. They look like the shape of the arrow tips??? But don't know that they're properly "aligned" for that.
