Are you submitting your war silver to the bounce test for silver transistion errors?

I have heard of silver war nickels being struck on wrong planchets before and I do keep a eye out for those if that's what you mean?

Yeah we went on a dry spell and now its picking up. Weird thing is that the 38 reverses are showing up too. Kinda strange everything is picking up all at once but then again its that time of season to really start hunting as much as possible!

Hi guys, please help me figure out what I have found. It’s a dateless buffalo S nickel. Some dope drilled a hole in it and I know it’s not worth more then silver value. But I think it could have been. Red book says something about type 2 for this. I think this could have been a rare coin if it wasn’t screwed up. Any insights?

Hard to tell from photos but if that is a 1913S Type Two that is a awesome find!

I wasn't sure if the date could be figured out. It is an S . too bad it's so damaged.

It's Type 2 based on the reverse design. Looks like two diagonal cutter marks on the coin along with the drilled hole. If it were for a necklace, I suspect that the hole would have been at 12 o'clock instead of where it is. So it may be that the coin became damaged and a collector figured they would destroy it so that others wouldn't necessarily benefit. Hard to say what anyone is thinking when they destroy a coin. You sometimes can tell by the ribbon and the braid what year the coin is, but based on the one obverse photo, I think it's probably not from the 20's. And with the worn off date, it could be an early teen to later teen coin. My recommendation is to pickle that nickel to reveal a date. This was a 1915D picked up in a parking lot:
