There are two "firsts" revealed in this Trivia:

1 The Oregon Trail Memorial Half Dollar was the first commemorative coin struck by the Denver Mint. The coin was first struck in 1926 at Philadelphia and San Francidco. In 1933 the minting honors was given solely to the Denver Mint.

2 This coin was designed by a husband and wife team:

James Earle Fraser and Laura Gardin Frazer.

You may remember the name James Earl Fraser in regard to the Indian Head obverse and Bison reverse Nickel otherwise known as the "Buffalo Nickel:"

And in 2001 the commemorative One Dollar Buffalo was minted. Notice the "F" below the date:

Laura Gardin Frazer has the distinction of designing some other United States commemoratives:

She designed the 1926 Alabama Centennial Half Dollar:

She, also, designed the the two Grant Commemoratives (the 1922 silver Half Dollar and Gold Dollar):

There's another Commemorative coin she designed. Do you know which one it is?

    Here's a hint: It's a Silver Half Dollar.

    Think you know?

    Here it is:

Some of you may realize this prolific female coin designer also designed the two Philippines 1947 coins commemorating General Douglas MacArthur which were struck in the United States by the San Francisco Mint (Peso and 50 Centavos):"

Here's a photo of the Peso courtesy of Don's World Coin Gallery (the 50 Centavos, though smaller, has the same design as the Peso):

Clinker - Great info! I really liked the info since I am a comm collector, but you missed one! She designed another commemorative coin. Unfortunately, her designs weren't used until many, many years after her death, so she didn't get to see her final work. Personally, I think this was her master piece. Her designs were used for the obverse and reverse of the coin. Can you name this coin????

Hint: I posted a thread about this coin several months ago with a pretty detailed history of the obverse and reverse designs.

Here is the "unknown" LGF coin... One of my personal all time favorites. Notice her initials on the bottom of the GW bust.
