So far every time I've thought I found one with doubling I've been wrong. Yet here I go again.... P.S. Its a 1979 D
Hi Kelly, this is machine doubling (also known as worthless doubling). Here's some reading on them, as well as photos to tell the difference. http://www.error-ref.com/machine-doubling/ http://www.error-ref.com/doubled-dies/
Thank you so much! After posting this I watched some youtube videos on the difference and while its still a little confusing I think I am starting to get it. I think once I see one that is the real thing in person then I wont have such a hard time
The biggest thing to remember is that true doubling makes the number, letter, or whatever device, bigger than it actually is supposed to be. MD doesn't change the size and makes them actually look smaller because of part of the device being sheared off. Keep studying and searching!
I'm afraid this is known as die deterioration doubling: http://www.error-ref.com/die-deterioration-doubling/
Thank you so much for your help! I just truly am trying to learn. I've been collecting for almost 10 years, you would think I would have figured it out by now lol
It took me a lot of swings and misses on my end before getting even a baseline understanding of errors. And that was after years of collecting. Thankfully, a lot of the members here led me to the right information. Keep studying, keep learning, and keep searching (best to keep it in that order).
Yes this one is Doubled but it's called MD or machine doubling. It's very common so it makes it a NAV or no added value doubling coin.
