The answer....neither...very bad fakes. My friend bought these on letgo, dont be a victim. Compare the coin to certified examples, look for pot marks or pitting in the coin. Be aware of weak details, weight, and ware. That peace dollar looks horrendous....
These are the worst sort of fakes, because they are good enough to fool non-collectors. The Peace is more convincing than the Morgan, but if someone who didn't know anything about coins saw these in a flea market, they'd probably buy it.
The Peace Dollar is clearly a fake. The Morgan obverse doesn't look terrible but the reverse was the dead give away to me.
The reverse of the Peace dollar seems to be showing remnants of a "Clashed Die" underneath the eagle. Hopefully @messydesk will offer some guidance on this.
It's a faked error (squeeze job made to look like a clash) on a fake coin. The Chinese are getting into doing these, too.
So...These can be considered MS, due to not circulating after "producing", even though they are copied from circulated coins ???
Please forgive me for hijacking the thread, but everywhere I try to start a new thread says I have insufficient privileges to post (I’m new) and the site rules will not pull up on my phone. I figured that I would respond here because my biggest concern is getting fake or altered silver. I always buy from provident or APMEX to try and avoid fakes, but I recently found some great deals on 100 oz bars at bgasc.com. Are they reputable enough to trust with an $1850 purchase? (Please forgive the intrusion and if someone knows why I cannot start my own thread, please pm me.) Thank you so much.
First, welcome to the neighborhood! It may be that you tried to soon to start your own thread before your account was validated. Perhaps @GDJMSP can help you. He's one of the mods. Chris
