I guess I'm not as familiar as I need to be. I see some "bubbles" and "loss of details" which I always thought was indicative of cast copies...but maybe not.

Besides the cast look of the rims on both sides, I don't like the double denticles on the obverse rim. Then there's the lower portion of the eagle on the reverse.

I couldn't find any reason to think this was authentic and stuck it on watch to see if anyone would bid on it and on the last day, the bids went haywire. I feel sorry for the poor sap that bought it. :(

I do not consider this a good counterfeit but Hobo would be more knowledgeable on that subject and if it was a good counterfeit and made of 90% silver, I'd say it would be worth double of melt so that would be around $35 now.

All I have to go on is the pics in the auction. This does not look like a great counterfeit. It looks cast and is probably made of base metals. Personally I would not pay over $10 or $15 for it (and hopefully closer to $5). If I had the coin in hand and could determine if it was a better counterfeit than it is I might raise my price.

    No thank you.
Ebay, no slab big red flags.

We weigh them all at work these days and that one does look counterfeit on top of it all.

I don't know a lot about trade dollars. With that said, the thing that bothers me about that picture is the lack of attaching stems on the lower buds (bottom 2 leafs) and stem on the 2nd to lower bulb. However, if it is genuine, I’ll have to get my 77-cc back out and rethink it being a replica. The first is a pic I found online and the 2nd is one I have. You'll have to forgive my scan since this is the first time I've tried it, but I can assure you, there is no trace of a stem on my coin.

    greetings!
not that it matters by now as i have not been able to get here as much as i would like..but it looks fake to me. i really did not look close, but the denticles (not taking into account all unslabbed ebay trades are red flagged),, sent me a bad message. i do not know the value of fakes, but they can be useful. only hoping the person who buys it has knowledge of such.
of course..no reserve on a cc trade makes me nervous also!! isn't it illegal to offer fakes w/o stating as such? if someone gets taken by these dealers..is there any legal recourse? still ebay illiterate...............
    best wishes,
    steve
