Thanks Chris I always love your straightforward answers. I tend to stay away from the third party repackaged coins. I got this as a gift about 10 years ago but I wonder what makes them desirable enough that people are bidding on them for $100. Is it just the novelty? Or is there possibly something in these I could look for.

How much of a difference, in weight, would there be between a regular strike and a plated coin?

First how do you link a word? I love that makes it very easy to Define. It says clearly 'The extra pressure causes coin metal to squeeze into the narrow gap between die neck and collar". So what extra pressure are they referring to? I'm interested because I have some dimes that fit this description.

    That part's easy.

    1) Find what you want to link to. I usually pull up the page I want in another browser tab or window.

    2) Copy the link.

    3) Select the word(s) in your post that you want to turn into a link.

    4) Hit the "link" icon in the toolbar. (It's the little chain icon, seventh from the left.)

    5) Paste your link into the "URL" box that pops up, then hit the Insert button.

    6) Presto! Your words are now a link.

I'd be surprised if you found anything at all worth keeping. When 3rd party sellers acquired the bags and rolls from the US Mint, the first thing they did was make bulk submissions to their favorite grading service specifying a minimum grade, probably MS67 or MS68. Those that were returned ungraded were probably examined for any oddities that would make them worth more, and finally when all else failed, the sellers did things like repackage them (like yours) or plate them with extremely thin layers of gold, silver and platinum to sell to the uneducated public.

Weighs 6.25 grams on the dot, consistent with a silver planchet. The fields, with some circulation wear, still exhibit a mirrorlike finish consistent with a proof (which is not shown in the photos I shared since those were taken with my phone). If it were plated, I don't think the mirrorlike finish would remain. The reeded edge is the same color as the rest of the coin, no copper color at all.

Strange day for halves...but a good one.

    Got a 1992 Olympic coin
And a 1994 World Cup coin
    7 S mint proofs
    20 40%ers
    3 1964's

I've decided I want this to happen every day I search halves...but with a few Bennies, Walkers, and Barbers thrown in every other day.

Did a little Christmas Eve CRH today:
    $200 CWR dimes - skunk
$300 CWR quarters - 04S Iowa Proof, 05P Kansas "In God We Rust"
    $140 CWR halves - 64P, 4x40%ers
    Not too shabby.

So I found my first and only 1984 DDO just a few days ago, and then today I find my first 1983 DDR! Also found my first type 1 Eisenhower Bicentennial, while no where near as impressive, I searched for years and only ever found type 2's.

Nice going, only 4.0 million of the Philly Type 1 vs. 21.0 from Denver. I have quite a few of the Denvers, but only 2-3 of the Philly. And, I have searched a couple thousand Ikes in the process.

Going through my normal futile routine of looking for a 2019-W coin. (0 for the year.) And I hit this beautiful 1972-S proof. Reverse is nicer, photo is weak.

    Does it count as CRH?

I dumped a few halves yesterday and filled a bag. As the teller took the bag off the machine, I distinctly heard silver. Oh so politely I asked if I could look inside the bag before he closed it. "Sure!" was the welcomed response. I rescued 4 40%ers, 7 90%ers, and 3 Bennies before I felt like I was holding things up too much. I know there were still more in the bag...

Then the teller showed me what he found in the reject bin the day before. An 1893 quarter! He took $10 for it. I was being generous because he let me look in the bag....Oh, and I got a silver dime in the reject chute myself. Quite a good day dumping yesterday's rejects.

So, I have to ask, does this count as CRH? After all, none of these coins came from a roll...

It came from part of the process so I am going to declare it legal CRH. :)
