its a place where you list your coins on the PCGS website so you can compete with others of course they have to be PCGS slabbed to be eligible. One of my sets there is in the top 25
I'm in the NGC Registry. They accept both NGC and PCGS slabbed coins. Saves me a lot of money. I don't have to do crossovers.
Probably couldn't aford the coins needed to compete . Plus I only have about 10 coins slabbed by PCGS & NGC . rzage
It's not too bad. My set is 34th - right now. When I first started it was in the top 25 and then when the band wagon hit it droped. Then again, I have refused to buy any 70's for my registry set.
What set is it? Right now my Copper/Nickel/Silver type set is #14 at NGC. Got a few coins to add yet. Don't know how much further up the ranks I can go. I'll find out when I get there. My Gold type set is somewhere in the mid-20's I think. But that's as high as it's going. And my War Nickel set needs a 1943/2-P for it to go any further. Most of my other sets are composed of raw coins, so no Registry sets there.
I am a user of both the PCGS and NGC registries. I prefer NGC's interface and more inclusive policies...Mike
The only modern I now collect - complete set of silver eagles. I know it will continue to drop as they grade more 70's. Plus I doubt if I will ever get the 1995W.
The MS-70 bubble is bursting as we type.....see the current coinworld. I have always said Seventy Schmeventy. A 2003 Lincoln sold for $15,120 on Teletrade. Thats just more silly than me bidding $200 on a neon wheatie.
Know what it is still don't really care. .....and here's a really good example why. You know for 15K you could buy a lot of REAL coins.
my only complaint with that is how come i dont get any of those coins from my bank? I mean why shouldnt i become rich??
Could someone explain to me just what is the point of registry sets? Is it bragging rights, ego, snobbery, or what?
For me it is just fun. And some of those sets have really nice coins. Look at some of the top sets - some have pictures.
All of the above and as Mark H put it just fun for some. There are some incredible sets listed. A friend of mine has the number 5 and 10 Morgan sets I believe. He's proud of those coins and should be. If I ever slab my number one set of Two Cent Pieces I'll probably register it. Now paying 15K for a 2003 Lincoln is just ludicruous IMHO. Yes, I know, the grade is not handed out often but come on. I may very well be wrong but that seems to me like someone "HAD" to have that coin for bragging rights. Whatever floats your boat I guess. clembo
