Going through a box of half dollars and found a gold colored one that was stamped “1960 on the left size of the obverse and 1985 was stamped on the right size. searched Google to see if I can learn the significance of the dual dates and was sent to eBay where over a dozen were offered. But no explanation. No worries. No doubts that someone here will have the correct answer. So ‘fess up and spill the beans. What’s the scoop? And then
It's counterstamped. Someone stamped that visage into the coin. Of no value but certainly interesting, and a nice addition to any collection......
I've found these before and have also pondered the significance of the dates. Still, it makes one wonder why 1960 itself was seen as significant; one would think the inauguration year as being more noteworthy. Therefore, one would have expected these to be dated 1961 and 1986. I suppose 1960 and 1985 have a better ring to them being they are at the beginning and middle of the 1960's and 1980's.
It's a counter stamped to honor the 25th anniversary of JFK being elected as President. Another novelty coin.
