I got a copy of CoinManage and have been putting all the coins and their values into it, and it seems very helpful. Before I go to far in it, is there another program that you guys use.. or if you use CoinManage.. how do you like it?

    DJ,
I haven't started using a coin software myself, but I have tested several free samples. It came down to CoinManage and Pro Coin. I liked Pro Coin better. Just the layout was more easier to use and I liked how it was set up. It had a neat link to ebay - so if you were uploading your peace dollars and you wanted to upgrade or find one, there was an ebay link that would automatically do a search for that coin and list all the ones you were looking for. I think there were some other links to other sites as well. I only got to use the trial version a few times, but after talking with Smaugy, a CT member, he said that a newer version was coming out this fall, so I think I am going to wait a bit. Hope that helps a little bit. Joe

Hi - I use it and like it. But I really don't push it to any kind of limits.

Before a whole new thread gets started, go to the "Search" thing on the top bar and in the drop-down box, type "CoinManage". You'll get a list of threads that have talked about it.

In general, good reviews. But some have had problems with it.

I just bought it as well. i am very happy with it's functionality and once you are used to it, it's fairly easy to use!

Does anybody know whether or not Heritage uses a program like that? Do either of you have a copy of what your collection looks like after you've posted your coins in your program? How does Pro Coin look? How does Coin Manage look?

    They both have free trials

I've tried both, but I fond that for my collection Coin Manage has more of the prices pre-loaded in it. This may be different depending on the collection that you have. Not to mention, I've already put half of my collection in it, and I'm not prepared to switch at the moment.

You may also take a look at previous threads (I failed to do this before starting this thread). :|

I have used Coinmanage for several years. The updates are painful, the support is non-existent. When the database reaches a point it starts messing with photos, moving them or just showing the pictures with different coins. The database is not meant for a medium sized collection. If your a small collector and are going to use it for < 1k coins its probably fine. The reports are tough to create, Overall I would give the concept a 10, the actual software as it is sold a 5. Its just an ok program. I will tell you that I will never update the software again, any customization that you do to the software gets wiped out when you upgrade to the newer version because of the way its written.

Check out Coin Elite I hear thats a decent software pkg. with support.

I use Pro-Coin 2008. It has nice reports, upgrades are very easy to use and they have great support. Currently I have over 1300+ coins stored and the program works very well.

There is a demo out there that you can try for 1 month for free. I had originally tried CoinManage but ran into way too many problems and got no help from their "support".

There is a newer version coming out, hopefully this fall that has some nice improvements coming for the program. They are also looking at adding a currency module...so it will be one stop shopping to manage your currency and coins with one program.

There are frequent updates available when new US coins become available and they have support for some Canadian coins also. It is easy to create "user defined" coins from other countries or even for US/Canadian coins.

    Give the demo a try -- http://www.mwpsoftware.com/Pro-Coin/index.jsp

    You might just like it.

Coin Elite is one of the best. It will do anything you need but it's about $60.
