Meow just came home from a trip to the Coinstar. Meow put in about $200 worth of CRH tailings in the Coinstar. As Meow was waiting for the machine to finish counting after the coin slot closed. Meow heard and saw a few coins drop into the return box. So Meow was expecting a random, dirty, or underweight pennies and quarters to have fallen. BUT...……….…..To Meow surprise, Two Samoan coins fell out. So what the heck? Meow is sure there where no such coins in the many pawfuls of coins Meow put in, there where no such coins for sure. So what happened? Can Meow be sure that the coins are counted correctly when Meow uses it? If it spits out odd foreign coins AFTER Meow puts in $200 in US coinage, can we be sure of its accuracy? What do you guys think?
I think I like the coins you got! I think Meow is probably getting a correct count of coins if they are the types of coins the machine accepts. I think Meow should high-tail it back there with more change to count to see what happens next time! Hiya, Meow! Long time. Glad to see you. Hope you're well!
I think the total coins are counted, but the fee for processing the coins is so high. I could see if you had $500 worth of change to roll then it might be worth the fee ? Everybody varies on that....
Well ummm, Meow got Amazon gift cards with it for no fee. And Meow knows a hack to get no fee cash. But will not reveal it, as they may fix the hack if too many use it.
Meow was a bit busy with things for that last few months, but have come back to CRH after a little break. Meow hopes all is well with you too.
I have never trusted the accuracy of coin-counting machines. Never! Never! Never! Being a bit OCD, I always counted my change before dumping it in any machine just to check the accuracy. I'm talking about amounts ranging between $50 and $150, and the machines have always been off by as much as 11%. When I have asked how often the machine had been calibrated, I usually got a response like, "I don't know." (with a shrug of the shoulders) So, I can understand why some businesses are offering gift cards instead of charging a fee. They probably already know that their machine is in need of calibrating, but they don't care. They are relying on the error rate to make up for the cost of the gift cards. Anyone who opts for the cash instead of a gift card is paying twice as much! By the way, it just happened that I read this thread after coming home from my neighborhood Publix grocery store. They have a Coin Star machine right near the exit, and I always take a quick peek to see if there is anything in the coin return. Today, there were three items: > 2014 Portugal 1 Euro Cent > 2006 Mexico 50c > Bridge Token for the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission Happy hunting! Chris
They could have been deposited by another customer and hung somewhere between the rejection mechanism and discharge chute. Your rejects may have knocked them out. Either that or Coinstar bought transmogrifier technology from Calvin and Hobbes
I just located a Coinstar machine about a nine minute drive from here! . I hope it is a working one. I'll mosey over there and check it out - not today though!
Tis the closest thing to arcade game use. If you are lucky you might find a silver coin in the reject box. Meow does once in a while.
One thing Meow did not mention was that Meow first put in about $100 in coins first, Printed the ticket; Then put in another $100. And while Meow was waiting for the last batch to count up after the slot was closed, the two Samoan coins fell into the return box. So what the heck is going with that?
