My 2019 wrap-up

It has been an eventful year for me. I undertook the following formidable tasks:

1. Disposing of my Ancient coin, Vintage woodworking tools, Antique firearms and Japanese Samurai sword collections in an orderly fashion - this task is now almost complete - I have employed the services of trusted fellow collector friends (some of who are respected dealers) and they have all performed very well - completely to my satisfaction. I will also bequeath some choice items to selected youthful family members (and some CT friends).

2. Reducing my online web Pages from eighty five to ten. They will all disappear when the current contract with my web service provider expires sometime in February 2020 (I not sure exactly when). I have saved all of the source code and images on thumb drives in case someone wants to resurrect the pages in the future.

3. Selecting and setting aside a few especially treasured artifacts (Ancient coins, antique firearms, vintage woodworking hand tools and Calligraphy writing implements & accessories) that I will cling too until I die - a difficult decision indeed!

Congrats on your winnowing process. I admire your efforts to keep a few and toss the rest back into the lake so others can catch them.

Very nice to hear an update from you James. You are much braver than I think I might be in facing the future and I applaud your preparedness. Nonetheless I’m certain you’ll be enjoying your collections for much time to come. Glad that everything is proceeding in the orderly fashion that you have laid out @jamesicus - I am sure most of the coins have found good homes. As was mentioned in another thread recently, we are caretakers of our coins until we cannot do it anymore. Being two thousand years old and still here, they likely will last another thousand years, during which time they will pass through many hands and many collections. Best of luck on a happy and prosperous 2020!

II Wish You and Your Family a Happy Christmas, and a Joyous Holiday Season. Also a Wonderfull 2020. One of my relatives ( former U-Boot officer/WW2) just turned 107. He is a stamp collector to this day. His Wife if 25 years younger

 

You’re an inspiration, James! I admire your discipline and organizational skills. I don’t handle my coins very often. Many Judaean coins are quite small and I’m afraid of fumbling them

 

Same here, I just admire them (eyes only) I tend to handle my slabbed coins, safer, but still very carefull. For me its a bit nervey when I remove coin from auction flip to my SAFLIP, without touching coin.....
My lovable Thor(Rottie) loves a cuddle. Most Rottweilers are big babies that crave tummy rubs.

That’s a coincidence I should happen to read your comment, @panzerman ! I was just listening to Der alte Dessauer which is one of my favorite Oktoberfest songs. I spent some joyful times in Germany in the last century

That was with Curt Jurgens, excellent movie. "Der Alte Dessauer" was Leopold I Herzog Von Anhalt-Dessau. He was a brilliant Field Marschall in the War of the Austrian Succession. He was the brains behind what made Friedrich I of Brandenburg-Preussen's infantry, the best trained and effective army of its time. Friedrich II "the Great" would defeat three mighty Empires in the Silesian War/ Seven Years War as a result.

 

Thank you ACH - all of my coins have found good homes and yes, we are indeed just temporary custodians of these marvelous artifacts! I hope you also have a great 2020.

I also see you have moved back to Texas - I hope everything goes well for you now. I have a soft spot in my heart for Texas - both of my daughters are Texans, born in San Antonio! I hope you have the same kind of year 2020 as you wish for me.

 

Thank you, John. I hope you and your family have a joyful Christmas also. Your relative was an elite warrior indeed - I hope I can live to be as old as he is now (but I am hedging my bets!). I think some of us old guys last as long as we do due to marrying sprightly young ladies - I am ten years older tha Beverly!

 

That is some accolade from my favorite Deacon who I personally find inspirational! I guess we have formed a mutual admiration society for I truly admire your graphical art skills, Ray - and your warm, forgiving, personality. By the way, I also fumble my coins quite frequently these days.
