Hello everyone.can anyone tell me if it is possible for a 1976-D copper nickel clad bicentennial quarter to have an obverse,hub of a 1976-S silver clad proof.in pics the left quarter has LIBERTY far from Washington's head and Washington's head is smaller than the regular quarter on the right.thank you to all for your thoughts and info
The difference between the two coins appears to be very minute. I would think it more likely that any difference was caused by die deterioration. Chris
Thank you for your reply and input.i have measured the bust of Washington.it is smaller than regular and has differences in it.i don't think it is the 1976 version of Washington that why LIBERTY appears farther away.please tell me if I am seeing things,crazy.lol.thanks again
If you understand how dies are made, you'll know that this can't be accurate. A master hub presses a master die, which then press working hubs, which finally press working dies. Unless there were 2 diff master hubs (there weren't), then there can't be 2 diff sized portraits. Hope this helps
I have 3? why did you crop off the back of the pic of the right coin? and only took a pic of one coin alone and not both coins alone. when you crop something that you are trying to compare it's best to have full pics of both coin's side-by-side like you did but closer and centered. is one coin from P and one D? as your not showing use the backside of the obverse of the one coin on the right where the mint mark would be. And I think this is why you see a difference in the coins as the 2 coins are from different mints. I am speculating at this pint as I cant see the coin on the right @Oldhoopster
