As 2019 comes to a close, I have decided to share my top 15. Narrowing my selection down to 10 coins was simply too difficult. Overall, 2019 has been a terrific year for collecting, though there have been a few auction disappointments. As I have said before, my primary collecting area is Roman imperial, and that is reflected in my selection. Below are the first 13 coins that I have had the opportunity to photograph. 1. Octavian denarius 2. Augustus denarius 3. Nero denarius 4. Galba sestertius 5. Trajan aureus 6. Antoninus Pius sestertius 7. Trajan Decius double sestertius 8. Herennius Etruscus sestertius 9. Constantine I siliqua 10. Constans siliqua 11. Valens siliqua 12. Eugenius siliqua 13. Valentinian III 1/2 siliqua I have not yet had the opportunity to photograph the next coins (photos are from CNG). Once I do, I will include photographs of these coins in this thread. 14. Vespasian as 15. Honorius solidus Honourable mention (Greek): Antiochus II tetradrachm Wishing you all Happy Holidays and a prosperous new year.
Romancollector, Lovely selection of Roman coins ! The double sestertius of Trajan Decius & the sestertius of Herennius Etruscus are my favorites .
You have superb taste in coins. No wonder you couldn't narrow it down to just 10. I can't just pick one as a favorite.
Wonderful collection and worth every bit of the wait I confess, I’ve been keeping an eye out for your Top 10 List. What an amazing portrait gallery
Hard to pick a favorite but in no particular order: Octavian denarius, Augustus denarius, Trajan aureus, and Trajan Decius double sestertius are standouts to me .
Wow @Romancollector! Your coins are beautiful! I would love to have each of them in my modest collection. Simply amazing, all of them! The Constantine I siliqua, is the "eyes to heaven " type, right? That one is really cool!
Really cool!! I have a follis, with the victory seated reverse. The siliqua is on my want list, i like that there is no legend on the obverse.
Wow, quite a year for you, these are beautiful. Hard to choose a favorite with a group like this. The Trajan aureus is a stunner, and I really love the portrait on that A. Pius sestertius. The big bronzes of Galba and Decius and the Augustus/comet denarius are fantastic as well. When that Antiochus II tet can’t even crack the top 15, you know you’ve had one heck of year.
Wow! Quite a year, @Romancollector ! All are worthy acquisitions, but I like the Augustus comet denarius the best!
Great selection! Trajan's portrait on that aureus is awesome. Other than that one, I really like the Galba sestertius and the Decius double whopper as well.
A wonderful review of the whole empire in just one shot, well done I would go with the TD double sestertius if I were asked Q
