I was in one of the places that I buy antiques for my shop in this afternoon. This coin is in the original packaging from Hallmark. It contains a 1999 Pennsylvania State Quarter. The Quarter looked toned as it was almost the same color as the holder surrounding the coin.

It is a Christmas ornament. The date on the packaging was the same as the Quarter, 1999. It's advertised as a part of The American Spirit Collection. I've never heard of it, let alone seen one. I wasn't about to pay $7.00 for it but I did manage to get these two photos.

And it's put out by Hallmark, the greeting card company. The coin is from the US Mint. Ever heard of these?

Never heard of it, but it's better than the bloody spoons they used to sell.

Ever watch the Hallmark channel on TV? If you do (did) then you're already dead. Grandma watches that unrealistic, candy coated non sensible drible of broadcasting. I'd rather watch Mr. Rogers........(blast no. He depresses me. King Friday has way too much power).

This years USMINT ornament includes a 2019 uncirculated Kennedy Half Dollar in the design (so they say, I saw no pictures of the obverse.). So nothing surprises me from the mint.

Depends on what kind of an individual you are.

This was a big promotion from the folks that have the Hallmark gift card stores. They packaged up state quarters in every manner of doo-dad and put them on the shelves while the state quarter series was running. Only reason that I know is this is what my daughter would send me at Christmastime every year. I have dozens of these state quarters in Hallmark packaging.

I didn't even know that Hallmark had their own TV channel. Now you've gone and done it, I'm depressed.
Oh you poor dear. Haven't got the heart to tell her otherwise do you?

I bought the State Quarter Christmas Ornaments for Delaware (my home state) and Massachusetts (my wife's home state) cira 2000 at a Hallmark store. We hang them on the tree. I have a couple of others in the original box that I bought at a club auction.

The Hallmark Channel is a strong argument that it’s already too late for civilization.

Yes I've seen them before. Can't say for sure but the Mint may have even been selling them back in 1999 and 2000. They were an "official" collaboration between the Mint and Hallmark, and the mint was selling a lot of silly things back the like the State quarter collectable spoons. After a few years though they dumped all that kitch and concentrated on just coins. I think they did dump them before the end of the state quarter program, so it isn't possible to get a complete set. A few years ago though the kitch started coming back in like the ornaments.

I got this one a couple of weeks ago. It’s similar in style to the $40 one the Mint is peddling this year, but it cost me about 1/3 of the amount. As an added bonus, it’s from my birth year, so it blends in well with my family’s other ornaments. I also like its gaudy, retro 1990s look (yes I’m aware that I just referred to the 1990s as retro!).
