I could use some help grading one of the nicer Morgans I picked up recently. I'm reasonably sure that this is mint state, but the "guess the grade" threads have shown I'm not as accurate as I thought I was. I'm leaning towards ms65 (or better), at which point this might be worth slabbing. Is there anything disqualifying that I'm missing? 20191216_144516.jpg 20191216_144523.jpg

Being a "P" which are usually struck pretty well I think a MS62.
The obverse fields look very strange to me though having a sort of abrasive "look" to it.
Does have some nice clash marks which make it look kind of cool.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

That coin is somewhere in the 62/63 range, and I'd probably guess 63 if you made me pic one (better pics might narrow it down a bit better).

It is definitely no-where close to a 65.

Not even close to a MD-65. I thinking it's a MD-63 but it could be a 62. Too many bag marks and the hair isn't strong enough. What is that on the top of the wreath on the right side, just to the left?

A strike like this isn't usually limiting to 65. You'd need a better strike to get to 66, but this coin isn't anywhere near that.

The mark in the field inside the wreath is a clash. The Vampires could use that to help narrow down a VAM.

Heres an MS63 O , Maybe you can get ball park, but it's not worth guessing with pictures. Maybe your question should be is it worth getting graded. 191124_112935.jpg 191124_111943.jpg

That is the clash mark from the "Cap Vee". It's a common clash that doesn't warrant a VAM assignment.

There is no way (!) this coin will grade MS65. MS63 is probably the best it would get, and that isn't worth submitting it for grading.

I agree but the OP said he felt it was a 65 in the opening post.

I wasn't even thinking a clash but it makes perfect sense. Thanks Chris.

HELP! I can't see the photos. All I see is a tiny black box with a white X in it. Anyone know why?

Have you tried refreshing the page? Usually when I get that error its due to a poor internet connection that timed out while loading the media.

I would say MS-63, but no higher. An MS-65 would need to have fewer marks and a lot more luster.

I certainly don't have experience when it comes to grading Morgans, but seeing what appears to be coin roller marks on the reverse (one o'clock and nine o'clock) might get it a "details" comment.

I'm feeling 62 on that one. No heavy marks, but lots of little marks everywhere interrupt and impair the luster, making it seem dull. I don't see anything that would make me say 58, but could change my mind in hand.

Looks 62-63, but may be a 58 slider.
