I think I may have found a bu red 1988 wide am cent. Looked at PCGS and they have a pop. Of 1 at ms 65. I can't find a blemish on it. Opinions?
Silly to put Wide AM either on the label or the website, since they are all Wide AM. Now if you found a 1988 Close AM then you have something. If you like it, put it in a 2x2 and save it. I think you have to be at MS 67 or 68 for a zinc cent to be anything. Maybe this is an MS 64 hard to tell with these photos. I'd go a nickel.
Just started getting into The Modern Rare/ Error coin hunting.. man... there's like no way I can pass a penny on the street now without at least checking it out.. on and off topic.. I have seen many articles concerning the 1982 and or 1992 "CLOSE AM" Lincoln Cents.. But I believe I have found a 1995 "Close AM" although I can find nothing on the internet about such a coin existing??.. opinions or which direction to send me would be greatly appreciated . thanks in advance
Lincoln Cent Resource says that all 1994-1997 should have Wide AM reverses. I am not doubting your coin, but if even 1 die had a Close AM that makes hundreds of thousands of Close AM 1995's and it would have been discovered long before now. Photo is nec.
I've explained this before. The rare 1988 is the 1988 with the rev of 89. The main difference is in the designers initials. The problem is that when PCGS slabs an 88 rev of 89 they put WIDE AM on the label. This makes people think that if they have a 1988 cent with a Wide AM they have the rare coin. The problem is that BOTH 1988 and 1989 have Wide AM's. In fact as has been mentioned ALL cents before 1992 have Wide AM's. The whole problem is caused by PCGS putting something on the label that shouldn't be there.
