Or do I need to have it officially graded to make that claim. I have a Morgan that I have reason to believe is in uncirculated. I'll admit I don't want to pay to have it graded. Maybe I'm over confidant in how nice it looks. Advice appreciated. I promise no denial or temper-tantrums. Lol. Bring it on. Pics posted. with and without flash.

I would have to say that coin is definitely not uncirculated. There is wear, and in addition it looks to me like it was improperly cleaned.

The coin has been cleaned, rather harshly. It grades XF at best
with/without the harsh cleaning. Value at best $15-$17. It would
be a waste of money and time to have this graded.

I agree with the others. The coin has wear and has been improperly cleaned. Definitely not uncirculated and it is not problem free. I would say the coin is worth no more than melt.

As far as selling coins, I don’t think you have to have them graded to sell them and list them as uncirculated. You need to provide good photos and an honest description of the coin. Plenty of raw coins are sold online and elsewhere with the seller grading them. Bare in mind though, some sites were you can sell may have rules about assigning grades to raw coins.

That being said, if you honestly believed this coin was uncirculated, I would recommend you do a little more studying of coin grading before listing coins with grades. Selling a coin such as this as uncirculated is inaccurate and is a recipe for a return and a damaged reputation.

My newbie opinion... It has wear and looks to be cleaned rather harshly. Low AU/high XF Details...

Thanks everyone. I did notice marks and thought they may be from minting. Coins touch each other at the mint and can get nicked right? But that is probably easily discernable from circulation and cleaning marks. I just answered my own question didn't I? Not like I would have a clue on the handling of coins at a mint. But I definately don't have an eye for evidence of cleaning. You saved me some embarrassment and I Thank You. (Smiling awkwardly)

Hey, we all start somewhere! Take a look at your first picture of the reverse. Notice around the lettering and devices is a little dirty, but in the open fields and high points it is shinier and clean. This is evidence that the coin was rubbed but the cleaning didn't get down into the nooks and crannies around the devices.

Cleaned and circulated. It would cost you about $17.00 at my LCS.

Ah Ha. So that's how you tell. Among many other ways I imagine. Now I want to go on a rant about infomercials. Because I'm pretty sure that's were this came from. In some "commemorative" set with other coins my husband's deceased father bought years ago. Supposedly Uncirculated. Probably paid a fortune for them too. Now I'm looking at the other coin from that set. Even my untrained eye can tell that coin's been circulated. A Peace Dollar. Ugh. I see those infomercials all the time still. Now I will view them with skepticism cuz my bullcrap radar is on high. I guess it's possible my father in law cleaned this coin but I really doubt he would do that just to put it back in it's sleeve. And that wouldn't explain the circulation. Always hated infomercials ever since I bought an electric hair brush at 3 a.m. cuz I couldn't sleep. I mean how lazy can you get. Electric hair brush?!?! Specially designed for idiots and insomniacs. Okay. Rant over.

Yes, just one sign of cleaning. There are many others. Hang around, read a lot of posts and you'll be picking up lots of info without even realizing it! I've been collecting for 50 years and am still learning daily!

Thanks funny but I get what your saying. That coin was probably cleaned before he got it. Can you see the darker lower points on the coin? Now look at the surfaces that are more flat. The background, face, etc. see the shine? A sure sign of cleaning. There are other signs but I'll leave it be for now. You're learning and as long as you're willing to learn you will.

Yes I'm sure he paid more for them they you can sell them for today but that's a live and learn and you're learning.

Get ahold of a truly uncirculated morgan and tilt and rotate it under a light. You will see what mint luster looks like.

You can say it, even if it isn't as in the case of this coin (Lots of people do.). But it probably either won't sell or will sell for much less than a real uncirculated coin would. What you can't do, at least on Ebay, is give it a numerical grade VF-20, XF-45 MS-62, MS-63 etc. unless it is slabbed by one of the four grading services they recognize, (PCGS, NGC, ANACS, or ICG.)
