that's what saddens me. It seriously could easily grade MS 65 if not 66 or even 67 way to ruin my 4th of July...............jerks
Excellent coin, but I'm fairly certain it would get the ax at PCGS and NGC. I have personally had a little more luck at NGC than PCGS for BB's. Good luck!
Peace dollar Nice coin. I think it may actually be a high AU, but if you're still interested in sending it in, you may want to consider ANACS. They'll grade it something like: 'UNC details (or AU details) - damaged - scratched.' Not the prettiest words to see on a slab, but at least you'll be able to get it into a little plastic prison by sending it to ANACS.
Think of it this way. It's still a 65 with a scratch. It just can't be put into a slab from certain companies because they have a delusion that their opinion carries so much authority that it permits coins to be traded sight unseen. It's an Egg McMuffin approach to grading -- they have to be identical to qualify for the plastic. Just put it into your own 2x2 and write "MS65 - Scratched" on it.
DGS will not net grade the coin. If they think it is MS65 they will say MS65 "scratched". Do a little research on DGS, and you will also realize they are not some chump startup TPG, but I have already said much about that in the past.
From what I can determine from their website, DGS intends to do everything "right" and are making most of the improvements to the industry that I have thought were long overdue. I don't send coins to TPGs, but I'm looking forward to examining and purchasing DGS slabs on the secondary market.
Since it appears to be post-Mint damage NGC and PCGS might not slab it. ANACS of course will. Your image of the reverse is a bit fuzzy, but other than the scratches the prime fields appear to be clean. I'd be shocked if it came back less than a 64, and wouldn't be surprised if it came back higher. If you are in a position to get to a BIG show (ANA or Whitman), visit the graders there and see what they say.
