Got some interesting nickels there coinstruck. 1929 P Buffalo is cool, and a 1943 P silver war nickel is a good find! Keep up the good work!

A nickel that can CHANGE YOUR LIFE!

I Want to take this time and spread some more knowledge on some finds that I also look for. With a lot of people hunting Lincoln cents due to the large number of errors and varieties people seem to ignore the nickel. It is common knowledge the Lincoln cent is the most popular coin (hints the reason its been around since 1909) and it can give out some life changing finds like the 1969S DDO just to name one that can bring in $50,000+ depending on condition.

Now I am sure all of us have heard about the 1913 Liberty Nickel. Now theoretically it is possible to find one in a nickel box. And if you did, we are talking Millions of dollars coming your way. But since the odds would be pretty close to winning the Powerball lotto to find one (1:360,000,000) its just a dream for many.

But the Jefferson nickel has a coin that can buy you a house (well not a mansion) and is something I have been searching for and is on my bucket list. Has a fascinating story behind it and is more likely to show up than the 1913 Liberty nickel!

    1942S "Frith" Jefferson Nickel

This nickel has a estimated value between $100,000 to $200,000 depending on which article you read.

In my opinion this is easily a $200,000+ nickel. A lot of attention has been focused on this nickel over the last decade or so with articles and videos on YouTube.

What makes this nickel so valuable?

Well to simply put it.... ITS NOT SUPPOSED TO EXIST!

This 1942S Nickel has a couple things noticeably wrong.

    1. The planchet is wrong. The 1942S nickels were supposed to be struck on the 35% silver planchets newly made due to WW2. This is not struck in silver

    2. The ONLY nickel NOT on silver with a small mint mark located on the right side of the Monticello in 1942 is Denver. San Francisco 1942s have the Large "S" mint mark above the Monticello. With this error it is small and located to the right of the Monticello.

There are plenty of interesting articles on this coin. Who knows? Maybe we just might pull one within this challenge!

Thanks, I had started my Collection With Cents but now going through Nickels also, it’s Been a Year and Still No DDO but it’s cool, it’ll come, Every box I have bought I still have because I want to make sure I put that box back Knowledgeably knowing it’s nothing but plain old cents! So I still will go back and double/triple check with in some Weeks Winter time!

I started with quarters......enjoyed them for awhile. Will have to go back to them soon since I still have 4 W's to find. I did cents for while. Enjoyed those too, found some nice stuff and always liked how they toned. but then my boxes started being all new pennies, and that bored me. So I tried nickels. I REALLY enjoy nickels. lots of nice older coins to find! Love finding Buffalos and war nickels.

Nickelguy, if you are keeping the 40s nickels that you pull, it would be interesting to see what the percentages are of the different mintmark types for the S mint coins. Ill have to look in my nickel book when i get off work for the years and the mintmark styles. So more on this later.

image.jpeg Are you freaken kidding me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This box I'm going through is nuts! I will post the results tomorrow but wanted to give this coin its own post! Redbook has this at $60 in Uncirculated (if you want to go by redbook prices).

Just pulled this Uncirculated 1939D. Absolutely beautiful bronze gold tone. Has some carbon spots on reverse and on his coat on obverse. Few nicks on reverse on the high points. Steps are visible and has a nice strong strike! The side steps are also very visible on the left and right of the Monticello.

2 of my 3 (4?) 1950D Nickels were uncirculated (liberated) specimens. I think that it’s a fairly good likelihood that when you find a key/semikey coin it’ll be high grade (Nickels especially).

image.jpg I know this has to be PMD. What confounds me is that I don’t see the usual evidence of a dremel or grinder. Must have been polished to death!

This coin has road rash. You can tell the high points are smooth including the rim. Then the coin was put back in circulation for a few more years amd it gives it that appearance of smoothness. I see these from time to time with my boxes
