That 1982D looks new. Buffalo and War Nickel counts are lagging. You must be due for a mini-dump. That'll be fun!!

Nice! Which reverse on that second 39?

Yeah i checked that Canadian for the die clash and it wasn't. But on the 39s its hard for me to determine the two reverses unless they are in XF shape. Maybe its just me.

They are both reverse of 40. The S in pluribus has a serif.

I can see the second serif on the computer image. It was too small on my phone to see clearly on the second 39. The S is the simplest way to differentiate the two. Good for almost any condition coin (except Fair perhaps).

I can see it under the scope. But with my old eyes it aint easy without it. Glad you guys helped me with that. Ill start checking each one now under the scope. Dont want to miss a 38 reverse! :)

Indeed they are an unlikely find; perhaps <10%. But worth more than those with the 40 reverse for P and D (if I remember correctly). Perhaps a 50/50 split on the S mint coins. If I recall correctly, Bryan might have the history on which reverse for each Mint is the rarer of the two.

Great information about the 39's and figuring out which reverse. I appreciate that!

Usually dont keep any type of machine doubling or die deterioration but this 1962 is crazy cool!

@DatDareNickelGuy in light of all the Canadian nickels you've found do you plan on doing a Canadian nickel set?

With my AU/BU it is all about appearance. I hold onto anything 89 or earlier. Yes some examples may have a weak strike with no or weak steps but if some show decent mint luster I hold onto them. Any coin that is 30+ years old and shows slight wear I wil pull it out. I do see some of my examples are borderline AU but once again if I see good eye appeal I will take it out :)

Yep. I am keeping track of the years. Maybe when I get to 100 boxes done I will order another Jefferson book and my first Canadian Book. I have never put a Canadian set together so I might just do that! As far as putting another Jefferson set together I already have 5 complete sets. But I am putting all the AU/BU coins to the side and will start another AU/BU set shortly with all the pulls I have as of now. So look for those two in the near future :)

Does it Give a coin a Premium or Is it just something to Say Hey, I have a Very Good Example of a circulated but Great Shape Coin?

Yes, there can be a premium depending on date for example 1982 and 1983 have a nice premium on BU examples on both P and D. But on the most part all my AU/BU so far are at face value but I have post some 70s with strong steps which might bring in a buck or two.

Just would like to also remind people that theoretically any year can be valuable in a high grade. If you decide to hunt nickles and find a outstanding BU nickle even if it is early 2000s or older and you decide to get it graded. If that coin comes back MS68+6FS (six full steps) you just pulled a big winner!

Now yes, the odds of pulling such a high grade out of circulation is very low but not impossible.

But also keep in mind just because I only pull out 89 or older in AU/BU shape doesnt mean you have to. Some people only pull out BU examples. Some people pull out 1999 or older AU/BU examples. Collect what makes you happy.
