Take a look at this photo and tell me if you think this has been enhanced? http://cgi.ebay.com/1945-S-5c-Gem-U...ryZ41088QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem The metal tones do not seem to match from one area to another. Still looking to complete my war set and this is the only missing piece. Regardless, this is not as good as I want but I found it strange when I looked at it. As an eBay buyer I think you need to be wary of this type of activity for unslabbed coins. Thoughts? Thanks Darryl
I am not sure just what you call enhanced. I am sure that it has been adjusted to optimized viewing. However, do not expect your coin (if you buy it) to look like that one. Here is a quote from the listing.
I disagree. Giving the quantity of neg/neutral is totally meaningless without giving the total number of feedbacks. 12 negs out of 4611 feedback is actually pretty good. I do not know what to make of the 52 neutral. I have never seen so many. All of his star rating are above 4.5 and that is way better than average.
That may be the case but I don't think I would want to buy from someone that does not post actual photos. With the new star rating it is interesting that it's so high. He may be a good seller but the photo part really scares me. I want to know what I am getting or at least buy from a trusted seller if I cannot see the coin.
Do not misread what I said. What I was pointing out is that because someone has 12 negs is not enough reason not to buy from him. It has to be viewed in relation to his total feedback. All in all, his listing would not totally scare me off - fair feedback, nice return policy and $5 shipping???. I would figure your adds are good (not great, but good) that you would get a nice coin. However, to add to this discussion, they also have a Lincoln I wanted ($300+) with a stock photo. I wrote them and asked for photo's. Never did hear back from them.
You probably wouldn't want one of these since they've been dumped out and mixed up, but it's interesting in that there probably were a couple of superb examples http://www.ioffer.com/i/54996606
No, I do not believe the photo has been enhanced....Mike p.s. I would be wary of this coin/seller for different reasons pointed out above by others.
I didn't mean to come across like I didn't understand/misread your comments. Was just saying for me - I would rather see the real thing. Unless they came highly recommended from someone I knew to be as discerning as I am or had personnel experience to trust the seller I will not buy based on stock photos. The bags of cents the folks on CT have been getting is a perfect example - I would spend the almost 300 sight-unseen because I trust AJ and others opinion of the seller. In this case the eBay feedback alone would send up a red caution flag but if the actual photo had been used I might consider the coin at the right price. It's too bad he/she did not follow-up with your question. I hate to see something I like and then be able to close the deal because the seller doesn't take the steps necessary to make it happen. Thanks for the input
Thanks DavidH - I just have one hole to fill and I would rather find a seller willing to sell one nice example. I feel most of the coins I have are in the Raw MS66/67 w/Steps range so I want spend money on a coin I am sure will be similar. Thanks for the link and Welcome to CT!!!
Thanks Mike - the Silver War Nickels have great luster in high grades - I was just unsure if the effect was lighting or doctored photo. The reverse really made me wonder more than the Obv. The points above are well taken and appreciated. If someone came along and said they have had great experiences with this seller - that would be something different.
Hi Darryl, I am not sure how much you want to spend on that one coin but I have bought a couple from this store (cheapslabs.com). you can view the pictures of the coin you will get and the price was from $16 for a MS65 ANACS to $27 for a MS65 PCGS. I have bought several coins from them and so far all have been good. Others members will have to tell you if that is a good price. Just trying to help. Bill
