I thought this was kind of neat.... as some of you may know, I don't particularly like to collect slabs... although based on my past track record, I probably should. :kewl: Anyway, I do have a variety of slabs from various TPGs and was trying to organize them tonight in a box. I noticed on the new ANACS slabs that when the slab is stacked in a box, the top edge of the slab is slanted and displays the year/type and grade. That is neat!!! I don't know if ANACS has a name for it, but I like it! It makes searching for a particular coin very easy. Just thought I would share that. Thanks to Steve (SRKJKD) for supplying my first ANACS slab! Joe
I'm not sure how I feel about their new slab though, I still really like the older, more portable version
I've always considered Anacs #3 on the list. PCGS being #1 and NGC #2. The rest, IGC etc. are to me graded but . . . . kinda non-graded, if U know what I mean Vern! :kewl:
I love those slabs for that reason !! I have a buch of varietys going there soon, I still prefer them for variety attribution.
I think ANACS is an acceptable risk buying SUS, but they were a little cranky with my wheaties a few years ago. I thought it was due to dealer favoritism or something, unless my wheaties really weren't what I thought. Everything else I sent in comes back close to expected. I think NGC is #3 and PCGS #2 when it comes to strictness of wheats. I've seen MS 66 cents in NGC slabs with fingerprints.
ANACS. Hello Jack! I think wheats are good buys in an ANACS slab if slabbed after ~1998. I've seen overgraded cents in older anacs holders. ANACS is an accurate slab if its not off ebay. Details:ANACS is good pre-2000 if its not a key date. Pre-2000 grades between VG-10 to AU-55 are accurate for keys and plebes. Problems: pre-2000 MS-60 to 65 have problems (subjective warning inserted here). I see a 1 or 2 point generosity there along with some rather ugly ones making a cut that completely flunk book values. Maybe its an MS-64 red but its a mottled unnatural red with something unappealing to the point that you would only buy as if its a grade or 2 below it. Of course its a problem with every slabber, but experience thingies make me double triple google-plex check old slabs. After 2000 they're S T R I C T. Your opinion?
That's true of a lot of people. I'm mostly a slab man myself. It is very cool. I think ANACS, being perceived as "behind" in the race, feels a little more free to innovate. For them, maybe innovation is downright necessary... if you want things to be different, ya gotta do things different. Being perceived as #1, PCGS doesn't feel the need to change much. As long as people feel they are superior (which I certainly don't), they will charge far more than others.
That used to be true. But the company has changed hands twice since 2000 and so have their grading standards. They no longer have the same graders either - they all now work for ICG. They are no where near as tough as they used to be.
I like being able to see the date information from the top but the slabs them self are very weak. I can break them apart in my hand. Try it if you ever get one that you want the coin out of. Just grab on both ends and twist back and forth. The plastic will basically shatter. I think they could have used a better plastic. I like PCGS for having the best plastic. NGC seems to scratch alittle easier then PCGS.
Greetings Joe! glad you are content w/ the slab ....as well as the coin within (i hope)!!! i actually like the visibilty of the coin the anacs slab offers. i like seeing as much of the coin as possible as well as the edges. best wishes........steve
