Here's another example of the ANA promoting the hobby. Not only are they conducting another huge coin show, they are bringing to the show a very rare coin that is sure to attract a lot of interest. This will increase awareness of coin collecting by the public and may bring a few more collectors into the fold. The finiest known 1854 Kellogg Double Eagle will be displayed at the ANA World's Fair Of Money in Baltimore in July. This coin was once owned by the owner of the B&O Railroad (Baltimore & Ohio) so this will be a homecoming of sorts for the coin. Piece Of Gold Rush Back In Town I wish the article had told us the coin's grade. I'm sure the editor never thought about it but if he had he would have decided it would be too confusing for the 99.94% of readers who would not understand it. If you are anywhere near Baltimore you should attend this show (even if you don't like the ANA). The World's Fair Of Money is a huge show with lots and lots of dealers and exhibits. The WFOM in Denver a couple of years ago had numerous (maybe 20) mints from around the world represented.
Looks like a PCGS slab. According to their website, the finest known 1854 Kellogg $20 gold is a single MS64. Total of 116 certified in grades as low as F.
If that's the PCGS MS64, I believe I've seen it in hand and it's amazing. I thought it was a specimen striking or something along those lines, but perhaps I'm remembering incorrectly.
