I'm not a heavy e-bay purchaser, but I do browse daily. I've noticed dealers that state if negative or neutral feedback is given by the buyer w/o communication w/seller that the buyer will be banned from future auctions. Is this a new practice due to e-bay's recent feedback change or have I just not noticed this in the past? Or is this a way for the seller to try and protect themselves from bad buyers?

All of the above in varying degrees.

I've been banned from bidding for asking sellers legitimate questions. That one always kills me. Like I'm going to bid on crap!

Long before the new policy, I have been banned from several sellers. I have a nasty habit of expecting a coin advertised as MS64 to at least be uncirculated and not cleaned. It seems sellers do not think that is a requirement. That being said, I am sure that their new policies will greatly exacerbate the situation.

I have banned those that are on the " problem buyer " list for coin sellers ( yes, a list exsists ) and I will usually allow anybody to bid on anything.

Sometimes, on high dollar items, I'll screen bidders for non pay strikes.

If I get to the situation were I have no choice but to leave a negative then I would not wish to buy from that person again anyway so been banned by them is no biggie. I have one at the moment who quoted me on shipping for two cheap coins then sent me a invoice for $13 shipping and now wont respond to emails!!

Dont pay, and forward the email to Ebay, headers attached. They will interrupt any change in shipping costs the seller tries to pull, and cancel the transaction, usually.

I have never given a negative but if I did I assume they would have had to mess up real bad to the point that, as said above, I wouldn't want to deal with them again anyway. Its a bit of a sad useless attempt at retaliation now that bad sellers cant retaliate and bully buyers anymore. Poor ebay sellers...now, like most businesses in the real world, they actually have to exercise a bit of professionalism, deliver what is advertised and treat buyers like human beings. If they dont, they get hit with bad reviews and as we all know, sears doesnt rate its customers...its customers rate them...It must be painful to some of those craptastic sellers who act like they are doing you some kind of favor selling you garbage then bicker (if they even bother responding) and use bully tactics to keep you from giving truthful feedback.....
