Can anyone tell me if this 1984 penny is worth anything? Thanks. 20191203_015539.jpg 20191203_015534.jpg

The majority of the Copper Plated zinc off center strikes I have purchased have been $4.00 - $6.00

where did you find it? Very cool coin. Ironic because it may not be worth a penny depending on where you try to spend it but I would buy it!

Always interesting to me how we come in possession of these (or any mint error) and how they actually make it into the public domain.

IMG_2634.JPG $2-3. A 50/50 off center seems to attract the most attention in my experience. Bidding could run up to around $5 based on condition and interest in the auction group. Buying outright from my LCS: $2

The coins above came from a lady that worked at the bank. She opened a bag and saw a ton of error coins and proceeded to sort them out by hand. I'm sure she found most of the errors, especially the more obvious ones. But certainly a few of these oddities made it into rolls passed out by the bank and into commerce. Lucky for us!!

So what you're saying is, if I see "one" of these in a junk bin at my LCS; he actually has a box of them in the back room!?!?!? :hilarious:

Hard to say Islander - my LCS has always had a steady stream of error/variety coins, but not by the coffee can full. This came in about a year ago and this is what remains. I suspect that most LCS's don't have quite this supply. And at this LCS, there are a number of patrons who post auction items (error/variety coins), bi-weekly. So access for me is pretty good.

Matrix - I'm mainly a collector (hoarder), but the LCS and members there routinely sell error/variety coins. I'm not sure if they sell on eBay or not since I just visit the store and scoop up what I like when I'm in the mood. But they sell other stuff (under FatherTime I think).

EDITED for language. Please read the rules , no abbrev., symbols, etc. )How did you get so many off-center pennies? Do you work at a money distribution center for banks?

I only bought 3 or 4 of these coins as I recall. I also purchased another handful off the auction board from other coin enthusiasts. These types of errors come up regularly enough so I tend to look for something that interests me. I recall when I bought those 3 or 4 that I only got a couple handfuls into the can. I haven't looked at the can since and only recently saw that they were transferred into a clear soup (?) container. Maybe it's time to revisit that container to see if there are other 'interesting' specimens to be had.
