I am following Sallent's excellent thread, by posting one every second day. I will be showing post 1400AD coins on World site. This year, I put a little more emphasis on coinage produced circa 600-500BC.

    #1 Kings of the Bosphorus
AV Stater ONV (BE459=162/3AD)/ unknown mint
    obverse: Eupator (Bosphorian King)
reverse: Marcus Auerelius/ Lucius Verus (Roman Emperors)
    Acquired thru CNG/ Triton XXII

These AV Staters would suffer from gradual debasement, by 200AD the gold content was less then 50 percent. b-kings-of-bosporus-eupator-with-4632480-XL.jpg

This is the thread for gold bugs. I don't know anyone with as fine an ancient gold coin collection as you. Maybe Cleo, but he'd never share his coins online like you do.

I think I will speed up the process, and post one every day. I will keep going and post all new 2019 additions, probably close to 20. This will go on to Christmas!:) Like an "Advent Calender" for coins.

Two or three a day would even be better. And surely more than just
this years purchases. Open up that Canadian "Fort Knox" and show
us some of the earlier treasures!! Sure would be a visual treat!!

Go Canada!! That is an awesome coin, highly deserving of its place up in the Great White North.

My earliest Bosporan is perhaps not quite as snazzy. :D

You know you are a huge ancient coin nerd when you can look at that coin and right away tell who is Lucius Verus and who is Marcus Aurelius. Even with the cartoonish portraits it is obvious who's who right away.

Neat coin, really can see how the Stater went from almost pure gold to zilch:( Today, the powers to be, just print truckloads of paper currency and go into megadebt.

Or, we maybe just highly intelligent:) I never ever thought about it, but I can ID most of the Kings/ Queens/ Emperors from European Royal Families thru history. Collecting coins has many benefits....

@panzerman inspired me to get my first gold coin this year. After seeing him have all the fun with gold, I had to get one. I've shunned gold as it is not really within my regular budget, but I figured it might be fun to add one gold coin every year or two. I'll never have 1/50th the gold collection he has, but that's not the point. The real point is that as a serious ancient collector one should not shun altogether coins of a particular metal just because the budget won't allow for more than a handful of coins. A handful is better than nothing, and gold is just too much fun to simply ignore altogether.

    Here's my first goldie

Looking forward to seeing your list, P-man! I'll come back to this thread after you've finished posting all the coins so as to not constantly bump the thread back to the top, displacing our other coin friends' year-end lists which would not get as much attention.
