What would you recommend for a budget detector?

I bought mine at pawn shop for 250. Only one I ever had it's easy to use and I like the smart mode.

Shot in the dark and a lucky find. Keep looking, but the chances of a 'hoard' are practically nil.

Not with that head style. Looks like 1833 N-1.

    Is that... a soprano saxophone?!

Great that you actually found something cool. I used to metal detect when I was a kid but the best I found was a busted cheap Japanese made wrist watch that looked like it had been buried for 20 or so years. I never found anything worth my time. But that's the way it is with everything I get involved with.

Nice find! The saxophone could probably be repaired and played again too! Thats a sweet find, see if you can find any markings on it, vintage instruments can go for some big money.

    That's NOT a saxophone. It's a metal Bb soprano clarinet, circa 1920-1950. 95% sure it's from the 1930s.

It's silver-plated, which is nice. And it doesn't appear to be bent so it should clean up well and be able to play.

This is a one-piece instrument, meaning that the quality and value are generally going to be at the lower end. Expect $150 for a typical example in restored condition, with original case.

As-is, you can probably get $30-$50 for it.

Post a close-up picture of the bottom bell portion. Most metal clarinets are not worth too much, except for certain brands (Bettony, Selmer, King) that could be worth considerably more. Metal clarinets generally are only marked on the bell only.

I repair clarinets for a living; PM me if you want me to take a closer look, appraise, or restore the clarinet for you.

Honestly, that's pretty wild. But then again, I guess we all have that one expensive thing that we've lost long ago..
